It was the perfect hike to cross off #2.

Ocean views, desert trails and little lizards. I recommend Torrey Pines State Reserve if you're ever in San Diego and want a few hours of nature. Lots of different paths and not too difficult.

  • We're taking advantage of a rare day off for Paul and going hiking!

Have a happy weekend! I have lots to share next week.

…based on the light fixtures, it's going to be fantastic.

  • College is amazing. You're scared right now to leave home, to leave your friends, to leave your comfortable school.

But you made the right choice. You'll love it in so many ways.

Invest in a Mac, not a PC. Yes, a PC is more compatible but you'll be laughing when all the other college freshman get computer viruses.

While you're at it, ask Dad to help you buy stock in Apple.

Stop buying hair products. All you need is this.

And while you're at it, back away from the straightener. You have curly hair. The jig is up.

    Stay active.

    Stay up late.

    It's okay to be single.

Use a digital camera not just that big film one. You'll take more photos.

    And back up your files.

    Always, back up your files.

    Avoid MySpace.

    Avoid scheduling class on Fridays.

    Avoid unnecessary worrying.

    Be brave.

Sign up for more "just for fun classes" they end up being the ones that influence you.

Take advantage of your student discount.

Laugh at this : in seven years, you'll be married to Kristen's older brother.

    For the meatballs :

    • 1 package lean ground turkey
    • 1/4 C feta cheese
    • 1/4 C breadcrumbs
    • 1/4 C diced onion
    • 1/4 C egg beaters (or one egg)
    • 1/2 T dried oregano
    • season salt & pepper to taste

Mix all ingredients together by hand in a large bowl.

Roll clumps of the mixture into round balls & set aside. Depending on how big you roll them, this should yield about 8 to 12 meatballs.

At this point, we choose to brown the meatballs on the stove in a Le Creuset dutch oven. After about 10 minutes of turning and browning the meatballs over medium heat, we transfer the Le Creuset (with the meatballs) into the oven preheated to 400*. (You could skip the pre-browning part and just go right into the oven in an oven safe dish if you'd prefer.)

Remove the meatballs from the oven after about 15-20 minutes depending on the size of the meatball. (Feel free to cut into one to be sure they are cooked through.)

Add meatballs to your favorite jar or homemade tomato sauce and serve over pasta noodles and shaved Parmesan cheese.

    Enjoy!

Note : Over the next few months, I'll be sharing our favorite meals that we make consistently. Feel free to link to your favorites in the comments!

  • Photobooth Paul's work schedule has us both a bit out of sorts. But during the four hours I saw him awake this past weekend, I took fake photo booth photos with my Photo Booth+ ap for iPhone.

    Highly recommend.

  • I was online this morning when my MacBook started making a grinding sound. And then everything froze. When I shut it down and restarted, it went to a gray screen with a question mark.

A little bit of at home troubleshooting + a visit to the Apple store later…

    Survey says? DEAD HARDDRIVE.

Good news : they are replacing the harddrive for free. The Apple store guy typed in my serial number and somehow found that I'm eligible for a new one.

So I'll be starting from scratch without having to buy a new computer.

Bad news : my last external harddrive back up was May 26th and I have done a lot of work in the past month and a half that I would have loved to have saved.

Not too sad about the photos though. Most of the good ones are uploaded to flickr or the blog. And my honeymoon + wedding photos were backed up.

Moral of the story : BACK UP. RIGHT NOW. And then, continue doing it once a week for the REST OF YOUR LIFE.

    I've been on two rides.

On Wednesday, I rode downtown to meet some new friends for lunch.

Today, I rode downtown again to the UPS store.

I stay on the sidewalk because I'm terrified of cars.

This means most pedestrians are terrified of me.

Note to self : get a bell for the handlebar.

    But OH MAN.

Riding a bike is so cool. It's great to be moving and have the freedom to look around and actually see this pretty city. To not have to worry about the million and a half one way streets. To not have to scrounge for quarters to feed the meter. To avoid traffic (except the people traffic).

    I'm obsessed.

Details : my bike is a beach cruiser. It cannot change speeds which means I do my best to always be riding downhill. I hit the breaks by pedaling backwards. I bought the bike and basket at Beach Bikes for about $180 with tax. The brand is Urban Lady. My helmet is embarrassing but awesome because it will hopefully save my life in case of a pedestrian and/or wall crash.

    I highly recommend.
