A few days ago, I posted about few books I had recently ordered from Amazon. Here are my thoughts now that they have been devoured :

Domino : Totally inspiring. My one complaint would be that there are not sources for the items shown – makes sense, stock in stores changes – but it's a bummer when you really want something pictured.

No Impact Man : Also inspiring. Overwhelming too. A great read though.

Creative Inc. : Good. For the type of stuff I do (etsy shop much more than freelance) I found the sister book, Craft, Inc., to be more up my alley though. My favorite part of both books were the interviews with professionals in the field. I wish there was more of that in general on the internet & books. I love learning about people who have made it in non-traditional jobs.

On the fiction side of things, I just finished Moloka'i (thanks, Michelle). It was great and at the risk of sounding like a book jacket, a very moving tale of love and endurance. I cried for at least the last 20 pages out of happiness. Perfect weekend read.

And once you've taken your photos … grab a city kit.

Expect a bit of radio silence for the rest of the week. Excessive computer work as I've been preparing for the workshop left me with a very sore right hand. Super annoying.

But super cool : I have a friend flying in to spend the next 48 hours. So my time away from the laptop will be good.

  • Sheheaugust

Today marks four months of marriage for she and he.

It seems like the wedding was just yesterday.

(She's still thrilled that the wedding planning is over.)

(They worry they are becoming people who can't figure out where the time has gone.)

She just finished reading No Impact Man.

Which means he just finished listening to her read out loud at least a paragraph every two pages.

They know they can't live with No Impact.

But they are working on living with less of one.

And they are changing their attitude about the next few years of medical training, GMO tours and deployments.

Living through seems to make a lot more sense than just getting through.

Living through means experiencing and enjoying the race.

Getting through means focusing on the finish line.

Right now : together + inspired + busy equals she + he.

Paul's family came to San Diego a weekend ago and we welcomed them to Little Italy with an Italian meal. I made focaccia bread (totally worth the excessive olive oil) and caprese salads and Paul fixed up chicken and pesto with fresh pasta.

We almost rivaled some of the fancy restaurants in our little neighborhood.

    tablecloth is Williams-Sonoma.

  • Holders

Right now, we don't have one candleholder in the house and when I spotted these at CB2, I figured they'd be perfect to kick off the collection. They're glass but not too expensive. And I love that they're clear because they will work for all seasons.

lumi candleholders ($2.95-$4.95) in three sizes at CB2.

: for a nearby farmer's market with great plants + food.

: for the workshop excitement. I'm a bundle of energy and nerves as I've been writing and sampling for this class – but that's so good. It's been awhile since my job has pushed my boundaries.

: for your book recommendations. May my nightstand floweth over.

: that Dexter Season 4 is next on our Netflix queue.

: for a good chat with Paul about "living through it" vs. "getting through it."

: for my sewing machine (& Mom for the lessons).

: for a very productive day yesterday,

: and for the promise of a another one today.
