I got the quilt finished up late Thursday night. My hold-up is always getting the top together. The rest, sandwiching, quilting and binding tends to go so quick for me.

Just like with Ellerie's quilt, I waited to wash the fabrics until AFTER I had sewn it all together. This is totally personal preference and not something I have always done or will always do. What it means is that everything shrinks after being sewn (unlike when you pre-wash your fabrics and they shrink before sewing). The result is that soft, puckered look you see above. I know from experience (and dozens of washes of Ellerie's quilt) that it settles overtime.

The two quilts are very similar with the exact same size (45×60 inches) and pattern (equilateral triangles). I went with colors that complimented the other but still are unique. Both have pink, peach, cream and coral but Ellerie's is more gray and baby two's is more brown/tan.

I backed this one with a tan fabric to fit with the colors on the front. With triangles this small (they are 4.5 inches pre-washed) there are a lot of lines to be quilted which makes for such a pretty back side. The binding is machine stitched on because I know these blankets will be used a lot over the years.

Ahhh, so addicting. I bought fabric for this before we knew boy or girl and so that means I also have fabric for a boy quilt (it will go to a friend). I think I want to try something totally different. We'll see.

This looks absolutely amazing! I love how the two quilts are so similar yet different!
Not sure if you can get them in the US but I saw these and thought of you… some flamingo’s for a future project:

So pretty Elise! I love the colors (I may be biased… peach and light brown were my wedding colors!)

What size triangle did you use for this quilt? It’s adorable!

I am beyond in love with this quilt. So you have DIY tips on quilting, or this specific quilt? Because one day I have to make this. I should learn how to use my sewing machine first though. 😉

so pretty elise! i read daily but don’t usually comment (sorry!) i have a couple of questions:
    1) do you cut all of the triangles by hand?
    2) did you sew batting between the front and back?

I am a quilter–and a prewasher, mainly because of the chemicals that are applied to keep fabric looking good on the bolt. Also, some fabrics bleed and it is better for me to know about this before I do all the hard work incorporating them into a quilt. I wholeheartedly get that this is a personal preference–and debate. I wanted to let you know that you will still get the “pucker” if you prewash, namely because the batting shrinks as well. Batting shrinkage varies depending on type. Cute quilt. Lucky girls. And I may need to steal the simple label idea. Genius.

I really like that you used the same pattern for both babies!! I was so in love with the quilt pattern I used for our first, and always thought it will be hard to find another pattern I love just as much for (some day) baby #2. Love that you kept it simple and used fabrics that are similar but also unique in their own way. 🙂 I bet you can’t wait to see that sweet baby wrapped up in her new quilt, now that it’s finished!! Such a great feeling. xo

Looks wonderful! We’d make a good quilting team – I have piles of quilt tops and loathe sandwiching & quilting. But I love hand binding so there’s that. If I were rich and famous, I’d have all my tops sent out for professional quilting. The girls are sure to cherish these forever.

pretty! you can pre-wash your fabrics and still get that “puckered” look. it’s the batting, which shrinks and shifts, that creates the texture.

I think the slightly wrinkled look that happens when you wash it after assembly makes it look homemade in the best possible way. I have a couple of old quilts that have been passed through the family, and that wrinkly quality absolutely gives them character that new quilts don’t have!
Both of these quilts are such beautiful keepsakes.

how much fabric do you buy when making these quilts? You mentioned about 12 patterns in your selecting patterns, so how much fabric would I buy?

For me its the quilting that has me hung up! I’m working on a fairly large size quilt and I’m just not sure if my machine is going to be able to handle it or not. Any tips on how to sew something so large on your machine?

Is there a pattern for this design?
I would love to make it for my cousins baby when he gets here as a gift.
    Thanks, Miranda
