WEEKENDQUOTEaeinstein

a few things this week that caught my eye…

thinking about this a lot lately.

make a stamp out of … a toilet paper roll (way cuter than you're thinking)

Ellerie will have to grow into these but couldn't resist the sale price and I've heard such good things about this brand.

beautiful lettering.

if I wasn't pregnant, I think I'd live in this right now. (this is also super cute and simple.)

how to replant your house plants.

cleaning advice from the Shakers.

it might be the whole30 talking but I'd love to bake about seven of these right now.

now this is a gorgeous bag.

I finally saw the "buy button" on Pinterest this week. Innnnnteresting….

why we don't stress out about choosing a school.

just hearing about this book and am very intrigued.

what I instagrammed vs. what was actually happening. (this is old but made me laugh.)

so wish this came in Ellerie's size.

visual proof that I am entering nesting mode: my Pinterest board is all extremely empty home decor spaces.

and fun news: I chatted toddler lunch with Food52 this week!

I’m so excited about Big Magic. I didn’t love (or even like) Eat Pray Love, but her publisher and Gilbert herself keep posting snippets from Magic on Instagram and it’s going to be a good one.

i particularly liked the school related link! in recent books i’ve read (Overwhelmed: How to Work, Love and Play When No One Has the Time being one), they hypothesized that people’s desire to get their kid into good schools is born not out of hope or being inspired for their kids’ future, but out of fear. with a disappearing middle class and other factors they can’t control, they think that as long as their kid is in a “good school,” their success as an adult will be secured and they can reach that white picket fence, 2.5 kids ideal life. so kids are over scheduled, over stressed and have so much pressure – all stemming from their parents’ fearful view of the world. i try really hard to make choices not from a place of fear so that really resonated with me.
similarly, i think sometimes when kids/teens/young adults are provided a certain education, they feel restricted from future choices and career pathways that don’t require that education. for instance, my husband has a degree in engineering and if he felt like, “well, my parents spent all this money and i spent all this time… i really SHOULD be an engineer” he would have never followed passions to owning his own businesses and having the life he has today, which he loves. educational paths can be empowering, but they can also be restricting and i think kids/teens know when their parents have sacrificed majorly to provide it and they feel they have to then honor it, per se, and i don’t want to pressure my kids in that way. xo

Elizabeth Gilbert has a new podcast called “Magic Lessons” which is excellent and a great way to pass the time until the book comes out 😉

Hi Elise. Happy to hear the great news about Ellerie’s little sister!! Loved the lettering. Here is a link to the website of the daughter of a good friend of mine. Lisa was named one of the top 40 women over 40 in the USA to watch. I am so glad I bought several of her paintings before she became “famous”!!
