FRI-YAY!

As mentioned last week, it was Camp Mama at our house with daycare closed. I realize how lucky I am to have a work schedule that's flexible and thanks to some prep work and emails at nap time (which has mysteriously dropped to 2 hours max?!??!), I spent the days on Ellerie's timezone and it went great. I have all the respect in the world for the parents who are working full-time from home each day with little ones. This week was a reminder that my kid is the coolest, but also that we need childcare help to keep the ship afloat long-term.

Something I wasn't planning on but I am happy to have accomplished is the new girls' room. There are still some tweaks to be made and I will have a full post on this soon (with product sources). But this week, I added some tape to the walls, re-hung a lot of art, put together her toddler bed, rearranged everything (we're going to have a sleep side and a play side) and got started sewing a rope rug. (Which is currently screwing up my sewing machine.) I'm hoping to have it "done" by Monday.

Ellerie is still sleeping in the crib but we're planning to get her in the bed for naps and then overnights over the next few weeks. When I think about all the things to worry about this fall, transitioning Ellerie to a toddler bed is about item #97 on the list. We'll get there.

And this weekend my parents are coming to town! I'm excited to see them and show them the new parks we've been exploring lately. Ellerie is a totally different kid than she was five weeks ago, I can't wait for them to meet the new her. (And see all that hair in person!)

Have a good one!

My nanny babies are about 3 months older than Ellerie and around that age their naps dropped to two hours max and have stayed there since–it was a very, very sad day for me hahahah two hours has never gone by so fast!!
The girls’ room looks great, can’t wait to see more!

Is there anything sweeter than that wispy ponytail? No. There is not.

WOW, Enjoy the naps while you can. Mine stopped napping in January when she was 19 months old and has never napped since!

I was so worried about transitioning my son (now 3.5) to his toddler bed, expecting a ton of night waking and getting out of bed/his room, but it was actually easy as pie. We did get a crib rail for the side, partially because it clearly made him feel more comfortable and partially because he fell out one night and we didn’t want to worry about it happening again. We are just taking the rail off now. The shared room looks great!

We just transitioned our daughter (18 months) to a toddler bed (really just a big comfy mattress on the floor so she won’t fall from too high). We told her at bedtime that this was her new bed, and goodnight, and a hug and a kiss, and then waited in the hallway to see what would happen. Nothing ! She has slept on that mattress for the last 2 weeks without any trouble, not even getting out to get books or something. We’re still surprised – maybe you could give our cold turkey method a try ? Good luck in any case, I’m sure she’ll end up loving the big bed.

PS the new bed is in the exact same spot as the old one so she has the same view and light, maybe something to think about – for the first months before the baby shows up 🙂

What happened to your sewing machine? After your first post on rope baskets, I immediately bought the supplies and started sewing! My machine does not like the rope. I’ve tries various threads and the thread breaks every few inches. I’m sick of rethreading.

I totally agree about the toddler changing so fast. Every time her grandparents see her my kiddo has completely changed. Also, I totally am nervous about the switch to toddler bed! I thought we would move her when her little brother came two months ago, but I just keep putting it off and poor baby brother has to sleep in the pack & play. I’m not sure why, but I am totally anxious about putting my kiddos in the same room to sleep. 😦

I love Ellerie’s art on the wall! I might have to borrow that idea for my 18 month old’s room. It could use a fun touch on the wall and she bring home plenty of art from daycare!

Can’t wait to see the room. I’m sure its going to be gorgeous. We just moved our girls (7 & 2) into the same room so my Hubs would get an office and I’d get my own office/craft space (OMG!!!). We didn’t completely rearrange and redecorate to make sure it would work out first. 😉 So far its been good. 2-year-old in crib and 7-year-old in bed. Hoping to stretch out the crib use as long as possible then then move youngest to a twin alongside her sister. =)

Can I ask what kind of tape you are using to tape the artwork to the wall? I love the color and I’m guessing maybe it comes off easily without taking off the paint? I love all the art on the wall!

Fun stuff! My kids were done napping completely before either even turned two so I think two hours sounds like luxury. I’m glad your week went well. Love your blog.

I was going to ask the same thing. I was thinking of making a rug like this as well. What kind of needle are you using (question for both Naomi and Elise)? I need to look into it more, but maybe there’s a better type of needle to use instead of a universal. Perhaps a denim/heavy duty needle?

It is such a special time when you are expecting. My piece of advice would be to keep Ellerie in her crib unless she is crawling out. I am a mother of eight and I found nap time can become much more difficult once a child realizes how easy it is to get out of bed. With a new baby coming elleries nap time will become oh so precious to you.
