I shared a peek at my new(ish) office whiteboard in a photo on Instagram this week and wanted to provide some details here. I’ve been wanting a big board for my office since we’ve been writing on Ellerie’s easel. There’s something special about whiteboards! They take pen so easily! They erase so cleanly! I was hooked.

I didn’t want a normal framed one because I wanted it to look a little more built into the room. This piece was picked up at Lowe’s in the lumber section and called “marker board” (I think it was around $15). My dad installed it (with a screw in each corner) when he was down here at the end of May.

Once it was up, I immediately brain-dumped everything in my head on to the board. Of course, I still use a paper planner (and in July will start my GTWB) for daily to-dos and to break things down. (Example: I need to record the podcast episodes this month, but in my planner there are notes on specific days to send reminder emails, record the episodes and publish/promote the episodes.) (Also! Yes, I am going to share a video walk-through of all the ways I’m using GTWB once we are into July and I have real stuff to share.)

If and when I get an out-of-house office/warehouse/workshop space I think I’ll cover a whole wall with marker board.

I love your handwriting! It’s so free. It reminds me to stop worrying and just let the words flow.
Also, I can’t wait to see a video of how you use the Get To Work Book.

Elise – There is now marker board paint. It is a clear coating so you can paint it over any color you want. it gives the wall a shiny finish, but it works great!

A friend of mine has her “command central” in part of her kitchen. There was one wall that ended up collecting everything…….postit reminders, school work, etc. So…..they just ended up painting the whole wall with chalkboard paint! so now no more postits….just write it on the wall:)

Great idea! Pretty good for the environment too – saves wasting sheets and sheets of paper to do lists 🙂 x

Love this, Elise! I had a whiteboard wall in my college dorm room: http://tinyurl.com/whiteboardwall

Love it. Whiteboard is so much cleaner than chalkboard surfaces.

Like I commented on instagram, this to do list makes me want to get stuff done! I have to kick my procrastinator self in the butt, because even though I looove making lists, actually getting stuff done is hard for me. You inspire me to do so and I can’t wait to use the #gettoworkbook!

i think its great how youve made an office out of your home while most are renting their own space.
so when you do, i cannot wait to see what you do! because if you can (pardon my french) kick ass like this in your home where you live life and do work, i cant even imagine what you will do in an open area dedicated just for work!!!

When you’re done, do you just erase the item? I kind of like checking off checkboxes so I can see what I’ve accomplished, but looking at this, it’s interesting that you only see what’s left to do…

My old office had whiteboard walls! The stuff we had was sort of like wallpaper. It was awesome!

I’m a fan of large white boards myself. Did you know there is a paint you can buy that creates a white board on your wall? My hubby is a painting contractor and he did one for a client. You have to have a smooth surface, obviously, but making a whole wall be a white board would be awesome.

When I was a kid, my dad made me a “fort” in the little area beneath the steps going downstairs and covered the whole thing in marker board! It was the best fort EVER!!

Wall-sized whiteboards are amazing! At my last job, there was one next to my desk that was floor to ceiling (which admittedly felt a bit too tall) and about four feet wide. There were all kinds of great projects outlined on that board! Especially in the early stages of a project, having the freedom to write, erase, draw, etc. was just what I needed.

Do you use this in addition to your get to work book? And if so, how do you use the work book differently? Thanks in advance 🙂

I always love your posts on organization and goal setting. I’m a college student and just got the GTWB. How would you recommend I use it for school and other extracurriculars? I don’t run a business and do a little bit of ‘fun blogging’ to keep myself from totally burning out creativity wise– so I’ve been curious what your thoughts are on this.
