enJOY it

I've got three things on my mind right now (it's Thursday afternoon).

Going out for breakfast with my crew tomorrow morning. There are tough parts of having a toddler that gets up at the crack of dawn and a husband who often works night shifts, but being first in line when Snooze opens is not one of them. I can taste the Eggs Benedict now.

Finishing this quilt. REMEMBER WHEN I STARTED IT? Me neither (I can't even find the link). But someone asked about it and I realized it was time to bite the bullet and finish. Since every single smidge of my perfectionism went into GTWB, there wasn't much left in the tank for this one. There was no measuring, pinning or ironing and as I was sandwiching it together I could actually hear legit quilters sobbing, but I'm loving it anyway. It's shocking how a good color scheme can turn any frown upside down. Look for it as part of a MAKE AND GIVE 30 giveaway next week.

Dreaming about Get To Work Book™ long term. I have alllllllll the plans for this one. Including, but not limited to: a world tour, goal-setting workshops, an online community, a real life community and maybe one of those planes that pulls a motivational sign. I talked to my printer yesterday and things are moving along! We might even be ahead of schedule. (I just jinxed myself.) But seriously. What sort of planner seller would I be if I couldn't deliver on time? That's like a clock maker…being late. Or a Sommelier… not bringing wine to your party. I can't even think about it. Pre-order here!

It's all over the map here right now. Spring fever and all that jazz. I've got good stuff coming down the pipe though. Stay with me.

Yay for Snooze! I went there on a trip to San Diego a year ago and still dream about the chocolate pancakes with tangerine sauce on the regular.

I sympathize with you on the challenges of a toddler especially when your partner works nights. My husband works nights and I’m trying to find routine with a 2 month old and a 9 year old while sliding into numbered days before I head back into work, sigh. But I know this too will change, and it gets easier for sure. Your blog is encouraging for the direction I want my career to go in, so BIG KUDOS to you for motivating others, keeping it going & ‘getting to work’!

I totally wish there were more brunch places in my town. We are seriously lacking there. I also love the colors of that quilt. I have been working on a crocheted blanket with all the colors. the more the better!

I admit to wanting to sob over the quilt. Why would you not measure???? Ha! But if I tried to make a planner, I’m sure you would sob over it too. I am so happy I can just buy your planner instead! As long as you are happy with your quilt, that’s all the really matters. It’s all good. 🙂

There are several large but very serious contentions of quilters who do not measure or follow patterns. For the present day original (in my opinion) I would suggest looking at Gwen Marston http://www.gwenmarston.com/ (full disclosure she is my mentor and friend so I am a little biased), the Modern Quilt Guild http://www.themodernquiltguild.com/ (started in 2009, some are more “liberated” than others, still all are welcome), and an up and coming quilter who I think will change the way the modern quilters quilt, for the better, Sherri Lynn Wood http://daintytime.net/
Then of course there are the Gee’s Bend Quilters. TOTALLY legit and in The Smithsonian no less and I doubt they even own rulers. http://www.auburn.edu/academic/other/geesbend/explore/catalog/slideshow/index.htm (they don’t have their own webpage).

I hope I get to San Diego soon so I can try snooze. I can’t have eggs Benedict, but I bet french toast is a good choice, too.

Can I just say that I’m excited for GTWB–the Jan through Dec edition? Count me IN for that version. After SO many years of academic calendars, you’d think it would be second nature. Alas, no. But I wanted you to know that I’m waiting patiently!!

I’m inspired by your ideas for GTWB! Love seeing how the ideas are spilling out of you, and goal-setting workshops idea = GENIUS.
I mentioned this on the GTWB IG account but thought I’d place the question here too: Would there be any possibility of preorder peeps getting a set of undated layouts for the main planning pages (weekly view, monthly view, project planning pages, monthly reflection pages)? It may feel risky to offer this, so I understand if it’s not an option. But I also think it could fuel our enthusiasm for spreading the word if we were able to start using the layouts now. 🙂

Here is what I think is the first link to the quilt: http://eliseblaha.typepad.com/golden/2014/09/it-must-be-september.html
And here are other times it has been mentioned:

Very likely it has been mentioned after this but I remembered the approximate month when I saw the pictures (I have a weird memory like that). So in case you wanted to look back :). Hope you enjoyed breakfast!

you may have a good point. it would be fun to play with it a little before it comes via mail. we may be able to post some early photos of how others are using the sample. and yes it may entice others to order or it could be a risk. we’ll have to see if she leaves a comment on her thoughts. she’s the one who has a very good business background.
happy weekend elise. i hope you and your family have a restful and fun weekend.

Hi Elise! I was wondering if the GTWB is stamp friendly? I understand it could depend on the ink being used.

I think you’ve totally got enough wonky going on on that quilt that it looks intentional and ‘liberated’. And yes, that color scheme is AWESOME!

Thinking back, I’m worried that came out wrong. I think your quilt is beautiful. I’m just someone who can’t imagine not measuring, that’s just how my brain works when it comes to straight lines and corners. I think it’s interesting how perfectionism comes out in different ways for all of us. I am not at all a perfectionist when it comes to planning, which is why I can’t wait to receive your planner – I’m really hoping it will help keep me on track. 🙂

Two things… #1. Snooze is BY FAR my fav (and so is the Eggs Benedict). Sooooo excited to find out we have THREE locations here in the Denver/metro area (it’s birth place) and they’re opening one in Austin (my hometown). #2. Can’t wait to see what you have in stored for the GTWB!

oh no worries!! I’m not offended and I am happy with the quilt. 🙂 for me, the measuring and pinning and ironing are the worst parts of quilt-making. This was an experiment to see if I still like the results when I take out all the (to me) boring parts. 😉

I just saw your IG comment – sorry for the delay! I do not plan to offer free downloads for pre-order folks. I would like to have PDF downloads available at some point, but it will not be before the books are shipping and I am not sure if that’s something I’ll open before 2016 either.
It’s not that it’s a risk necessarily, but it’s more like I need to feel this out and see how the physical products do. 🙂
I agree that the best way for the book to be spread is through customer enthusiasm and I just have to hope that you’re excited enough to share when the real book arrives. 🙂 thank you!!

yes, it would depend on the ink for sure. Just tested my (very dried out) staz-on and it was good, but a brand new pad would probably give some bleed. It’s not slick paper though so smudging should not be a big issue. 🙂

I don’t plan on closing presale so you can order right up until the books start shipping. I don’t anticipate a sell out until mid-late June and will be sure to keep you notified if we get close! 🙂

Thanks for the reply, Elise! I can understand that. No problem. I may try what some others on IG have mentioned about making a mock-drawn version of it so I can practice using it. I see the GTWB filling in so many gaps in the makeshift planning system I’ve created for myself (which is a combination of three different planning systems into one!) that I’m so antsy with anticipation and excitement to get started with it! 🙂
