scrap yarn knit blanket

Last year, while I was knitting my 29 blankets, I knitted one extra (I think it was number 19). I didn't have enough of two yarns colors at the house and I was wanting to knit so I just started adding scrap yarn together. Of course, then I ran out of scrap yarn and had to go buy more to actually finish this blanket.

Originally, I thought I'd sell it as one of the 29 but then realized that would be so random. 28 striped blankets and then this one! This random one! #odd.

So I kept it aside and powered through the remaining blankets. And then sold them in November.

This one is still special to me though. I love the look. I love the warm color palette. I love the crazy changing yarns.

Like all the blankets, this was knit with simple back-and-forth garter stitch on size 15 needles. (I did 60 stitches per row if you want to make your own.)

One of my favorite posts of yours from 2014 was when you officially launched your Make29 project. The excitement and passion you felt came through in your writing and leaped off the computer screen. I have loved seeing that project evolve. You are truly gifted in many ways, one of them is the way you inspire others to just do it.

I can’t believe you are giving this away! It is so beautiful!!! I have so many favorite posts from you over the years & am often pulling from your archives to reference again. (& actually, today, I went to your archives to see if I could pick just one & found another great one – the STAMP one – which is perfect timing because I’m currently in the process of turning my MADE IN (insert state) hand lettered designs into stamps and have been researching stamp companies!! Seriously, you are an essential for small creative business!) My FAVORITE this year has really been your podcasts! I can’t pick just one because there are so many that have inspired me, and with a 2 year old, it’s easier for me to listen to something than to read these days (although I do still find a moment or two to pop over to the blog every week!)

Where do I begin on favorite posts?! I’ll start by saying my all time favorite post, and I refer to it often, is the one that brought me to your blog in the first place…the post on what you were eating as a gestational diabetic. I too have gestational diabetes, and I felt such a sense of relief when I found your blog, we are very like minded and eat similar diets, so now my meals look a lot like yours! My favorite 2014 blog: your 18 month Ellerie post, I so related to that post–I have a two and half year old son, and it know that feeling of ‘ok, this is my favorite stage!”. I’m here to say that it keeps getting better, my dear! I’m expecting my 2nd in March, and no joke, all we need to finish his nursery is a blanket, and yours would be a treasured gift in my house. I am a huge fan, keep up the great work, and thank you for your help with GDM 🙂

That blanket turned out great! I was able to purchase a gray/orange one – and this blanket would be a fun complement to that one. I’ve been reading your blog for almost three years now – started during the winter of my senior year of college. You really helped fuel my procrastination 🙂
One of my favorite posts from 2014 was when you discussed the physical side of your Make29 products. I love the stories behind marketing and branding, so I enjoyed reading about your inspiration and changes. Happy New Year!

Love this blanket! Love your blog! Been reading since fall 2012 when I discovered project life and got addicted to your layout posts. My faves from this year were your title page for your 2014 project life album – love those triangles! And your series about your journey to where you are today in your career.
And your E and E posts! Such a cute idea. I’m and E and my little girl -3 – recently decided to add an e to her name to be like mama.

I have been reading off and on since December 2007. I know the month because I was on bed rest, pregnant with my first and all I had was the internet to keep me company. I loved how you crafted, made scrapbooks that were modern, not so cheesy. I remember thinking – wow I hope she has a baby someday – her ideas would be genius. And my favorite post was when you bared it all on how being a mother took you legs right from under you. How hard it was but how beautiful too. Loved the honesty there. Oh and your painting canvas posts. Have me the courage to make my own!

I’ve been reading since fall 2011, when I found a Goodness Book on etsy. Yours is one of six blogs I subscribe to, and the only one that’s sent me to (three!) other blogs that I now subscribe to (KA, Coffee & Crumbs and Oh Joy). I love the balance you strike between all your favorite things, and the things that feed your soul- it’s a balance I had a hard time finding for myself and now after three years, I’m finally ready to start blogging myself! I think I might just have something to say….
I love your e & E monthly series for Ellerie’s second year! I don’t have a favorite post but that series has inspired me to take note of the things around me and use my favorites to mark seasons. I am also pregnant (due in March!) and have been writing letters to my little lady as inspired by your letters to Ellerie during her first year. I’d love this blanket but what I’m pumped about is making my own! I’ve been wanting to for YEARS but didn’t see how I could do it without it looking terrible. So I’m pretty pumped to try it out. I will start that as soon as I finish baby’s first blanket. 🙂

Hi Elise! I’ve been reading for about 3-4 years now. My favorite post from this year was the grilled cantaloupe with season salt! What a bizarre, wonderful and absolutely delicious side! So random but it changed the way I look at serving fruit and the salty/sweet combo. I made it for the first time on the 4th of July, which was one of my favorite days from 2014. Keep on doing what you do, girl! Your posts are my equivalent of reading the morning paper with my coffee and the highlight of my mornings!

Wow! This is your best one yet. The “random”ness adds to its allure for sure! What a beauty! Thanks for sharing it with us lucky readers! My favorite post of yours last year was the bathroom Palm tree photo project. I just love how it came together. I’m thinking of doing that in my guest room when I redo it this year. I want to make the photo cluster the bed’s “headboard”.

Oh my, Elise!! What a wonderful colors! It’s such a BEAUTY! And oh my, so many comments haha. But I’ll give it a try anyway! Because one thing I’ve learned from you is to always ‘Just try/start’. I really admire your creativity. You are some sort of creative machine sometimes! BUT what I was just thinking the other day, a lot of blogs I follow come and go, but there are few I keep on following. One of them is yours. What I really like, is that you don’t write three advertorials a week to make (more) money. You don’t write sponsored blogs all the time. You create something and then you sell it. It may not be as easy as just writing an advertorial, but it does make you different. With some bloggers I feel like: Okay, is this a honest article or some sort of commercial? There is one thing I don’t like so much about your blog: it’s the fact that I always think: Oh, I want to do this! Oh and that! Oh, this looks fun too! Lol. But I can’t do all these projects haha. If I have to choose my favorite subjects, I like the gardening / food posts the most. I think that’s because I can use that in my daily life. Well, enough with all this rambling. I just wanted to thank you for your blog, I’ve enjoyed it for over three years now! I was actually gonna mail this to you some time soon, but now I’ll just use it to persuade you haha! That and the fact that it would be so lovely to snuggle under this blanket on the couch after SIX!! months of remodeling our new house! (And we’re not even finished! We don’t even have a couch in our new house yet! But you’ll get the point!) And my all time favorite post is the one where you announced you were pregnant! That literally gave me the chills! (In a good way of course!)
Have a nice day Elise + Paul + sweet Ellerie!

I love the posts where you’re honest. I realize this is all your posts, so I’ll be more precise. I love the posts where most people wouldn’t tell the truth so clearly. That motherhood is difficult. That being a wife is difficult. That the house isn’t always clean. That things need reworking. That the garden didn’t take off like you wanted. That the painting isn’t exactly right. That a photo is blurry. That you made a mistake. I think many people are so guilty of putting only the perfect face forward, rather than realizing that being human means to not be perfect. Your honesty has really been a breath of fresh air, and I appreciate you so much for it.

I finally ordered a Chemex off of your recommendation about a week ago. I love it. This morning, at 5am, I was woken by a loud crash in the kitchen – and I was so sure the cats had knocked the Chemex off the counter.
Thankfully, it was an easily replaceable plate from Target. On lives the Chemex! (Though now on a higher shelf.)

I’ve been reading your blog since mid-2011. Your letter to Ellerie when she turned one is my favourite. So much honesty and thought. It reminds me that when my baby girl comes this April, everything’s going to be okay. (Because honestly, when they first told me I’m having a girl, I panicked.)
