scrap yarn knit blanket

Last year, while I was knitting my 29 blankets, I knitted one extra (I think it was number 19). I didn't have enough of two yarns colors at the house and I was wanting to knit so I just started adding scrap yarn together. Of course, then I ran out of scrap yarn and had to go buy more to actually finish this blanket.

Originally, I thought I'd sell it as one of the 29 but then realized that would be so random. 28 striped blankets and then this one! This random one! #odd.

So I kept it aside and powered through the remaining blankets. And then sold them in November.

This one is still special to me though. I love the look. I love the warm color palette. I love the crazy changing yarns.

Like all the blankets, this was knit with simple back-and-forth garter stitch on size 15 needles. (I did 60 stitches per row if you want to make your own.)

Hi! I’ve been reading your blog since…well maybe San Diego the first time?! Before Oxnard; I remember when you moved there…I love so many of your posts – Dear Ellerie, E&e, Things I’m Loving…I’ve repeatedly returned to, or shared, the Gifts For A New Mama post. I don’t knit, or scrapbook, or paint, or blog, but I appreciate the way that you communicate and undoubtedly find you super inspiring. Please keep on doing your thing, maybe someday we’ll be friends in real life – you never know!

Ahhhhh how to choose a favourite post! There are so many fab ones, I have been following your blog since about 2009, (don’t comment much) Off the top of my head I would have to say that at the moment I love your project life posts because, especially the ones where you showed the blurred scan photos. Your blogging about project life has inspired me to start it myself this year.

I first found your blog in 2012 when looking for inspiration on using PSE to design my wedding invites, and became a regular reader after I discovered Feedly in 2013. Sure I’m not the only one to have gone back and read through the archives and I often delve into them to find something I remember being inspired by the first time.
But in the nicest way possible, please don’t send me the blanket – my favourite thing about your blog is that it inspires me to make things for myself. I’ve just finished my first cowl and I adore the felt wreath I made following your tutorial. I’m excited to knit my own blanket! Sell me workshops and goal-setting tools and supplies (love your aesthetic and ability to pair colours and patterns) but I’m hanging on to the sense of achievement for myself if that’s ok? It’s just so addictive! Thanks for all the inspiration!

Gorgeous! I’ve been reading for 2 years or so and absolutely love everything you post. Your series on Succulents was super helpful and I’ve successfully propagated several of my own. Of course, your PL days and design of the Seafoam kit were super inspiring. And I’m head over heels for your stamps (both physical and digital). And finally, I love all of your posts about goal setting and list making.
Thanks for so faithfully writing and sharing your life with us!

    Hi Elise!
I’ve been following you for maybe 1.5 years now and I can’t get enough. You are inspiring and have challenged me so much in such a short time. Just yesterday I purchased your Goal Tracking Calendar pdf. It took me a little over a week to decide what one thing I could really see myself accomplishing for a year (or close to it!). I decided on at least 20 min. of yoga a day. Getting back to something I really love I think will help me live mindfully and to not forget that little things do matter. Also, last year I started my own blog (I’m big on craft beer) and it has turned into so much more! A locally brewery has asked me to join their team and become a Beer Guide in their taproom. I was also asked by an up and coming statwide craft beer guide magazine to become a regional writer for them. I am so excited and I truly want to thank you for your helpful posts and tips on blogging, staying positive and just being creative in all aspects of life.
Wishing you and your family the best of 2015!
    Cheers!

Your blanket looks so cozy! I’ve been reading your blog since almost the beginning … I was googling (is that a word?) a quote by Charles Swindoll and your blog popped up. I think that was in early 2006.

My favorite posts have been your Dear Ellerie letters because I have a little girl just a couple of months older than E and it’s so fun to read about your impressions of how she’s developed from month-to-month. I cannot believe you made 30 blankets. I knit an oversize blanket for my brother years ago. It was like a basketweave pattern. I made it extra long so he could tuck it underneath his feet and still have enough blanket at the top. Anyways – it’s the only blanket I’ve ever knit! I have crocheted blankets and will only use that method in the future. 🙂 Congrats to you and thanks for the chance to win. I’ve been following your blog for about 2 years.

Great giveaway, Elise, thank you so much. I’ve been a very long time reader/lurker – not sure exactly when but I know you were engaged to Paul, working in a paper/stationary store and you did a guest post with Ali Edwards that first put your name on my radar. I’ve been following along ever since and particularly love everything you write on goal setting and planning because I’m terrible at both given an innate resistance to structure of any kind. You make it palatable.

I have been reading your blog since about 2011. I was stumbled upon your blog from the posts you did on how you changed up your diet, and shared what you ate. Or mini books… or maybe both… It’s also been good to watch your sweet Ellerie grow, just like my cheeky monkey who was born about a month later (oh, I loved the being a Mum posts and that YES, routine feels amazing after a newborn!!!) My favourite post of 2014 has been when you shared inside your ACTION BOOK – I ABSOLUTELY LOVED SEING THIS – how you worked and planned things out… I am such a notebook and pen addict myself! Looking forward to 2015!

Hi Elise…I’ve only just discovered your lovely blog in the past week. Being on holidays has given me some time to do some of the things that I like to do! Working full time and having four sons means that “me time” is quite limited! Today I made a finger painted canvas a la your 2nd project of 29. It turned out far, far better than I could have imagined (black, teal, silver, white and cobalt blue were my colours) so thank you so very much for inspiring me. I’ve followed your lead and my word for 2015 is “INDUSTRIOUS”. I just want to make, read, do and be more. Constant productivity is the key. Thank you for sharing your creative spirit and your life with readers like me. My favourite blog for 2014 ( keep in mind that I am in severe catch-up mode!) was the one where you encouraged us to “dive deep”. Love your work, your website and your approach to life! Michelle

I am a daily reader – love your blog! It’s the first I check everyday! My favorite posts are about creativity and goals. Also, I enjoy your podcast. Haven’t listened to all of them but they were integral to my mental well being this summer as I was driving lots of miles as my mom was so sick and I was constantly traveling to help my parents while trying to maintain some degree on normalcy for my 3 kiddos. A trying time for sure, and your podcasts helped the miles pass and me not to worry every single second! Thanks so very much!!

I have been reading for over four years, almost five. I found your blog somehow while I was on maternity leave. I really love your book report posts and have found some good reads from you and your commenters. If my name / number is randomly chosen for the blanket, I would like you to donate it to a baby / family in the an NICU unit of your local hospital. My son was born premature so giving back to families going through something similar is close to my heart.
