E was up at 5:30 which means she's cat-napping at 7:15. Which means I'm drinking coffee and getting my bearings on the day.

Fun stuff on the agenda…

We have so much family in town! (Some who haven't yet met Ellerie!)

I am getting your flamingos out the door! (thank you so much for your orders! I've been getting reports that they are indeed better in real life.)

I have a press check for July's MAKE29 edition this afternoon! (It's rad!)

I am hoping I can convince my dad to help me add mulch to the garden! (Rumor has it this will help keep my plants watered and healthy!)

Paul's working shorter days this month and we all feel like we won the lottery!

One more thing : Did you happen to catch this week's podcast with Kal Barteski? It's one of my favorites. And be sure to check out YOU ARE AWESOME, her rad passion+personality project.

Let's roll, weekend.

It’s true, the flamingos look awesome in real life!
If you’re still considering your options, straw makes great mulch!(Just make sure you get straw and not hay, which has seeds in it.) It definitely helps keep the soil moist and not-too-hot, and it’s inexpensive and pretty easy to put down. My dad actually helped me lay the straw in my garden last weekend. 🙂

Mulch is the best thing since, well pretty much ever. Forget the fact that it keeps your plants watered and healthy (which it does) but more importantly you’ll have almost no weeds! Can’t tell you how happy it’s made me. 😉
    Have a lovely weekend.

Yes! The mulch will help so much. Made a WORLD of difference with our tomato plants. Like, I can’t even believe it.

We just mulched our garden with a layer of newspaper and a layer of straw. It’s hands down the best gardening decision we’ve made! I garden at a community garden and my garden plot neighbor (a man in his eighties) goes to Arizona every July, so he puts down about at least a foot of mulch (newspaper and straw) and said he never worries about weeds or watering while he is away!

I loved that podcast. It was through you that I discovered Kal several years ago and I have loved everything she’s ever made since then. So thank you, Elise!
And yes to the mulch! My gardener husband has shown me just how necessary it is, especially over here in hot Houston!

I just have to chime in and tell you that I got my flamingo print this week and I was blown away at the quality. It seriously looks like an original painting. So cool! I’m loving Make 29.
