WDS

I've got exciting news!

In July, I'll be speaking on the main stage at the World Domination Summit.

Yep! I'm talking for 30 minutes in front of 3000 people and whenever I start to shake a bit from nerves (like right now as I type this out) I just remember that this is RAD and this is going to be FUN. I'm chatting about my passion for making stuff and my belief that there is Big Power in making a Bold Statement.

It's going to be absurdly terrifying, awesome and (if I do my job right) powerful.

I am really excited.

(And nervous.)

Can't wait to share more as this all comes together. At this moment my speech is ready…as long as it makes sense to allow a 15 minute pause for laughter. (No? Okay, I'll keep working.)

WOW, that is so exciting! How did that come about? I can’t wait to hear details and hopefully someone will tape it… I picture Dwight’s epic speech when he wins the Salesmen of the Year award every time someone says they are giving a speech 🙂

Well, look at you! Wow! Congratulations Elise. I’ve been a follower of your blog for a few years, it’s been incredible to witness the success you’ve achieved in your life : the power of believing in and following your own path in life. Most important, how steadfast you are, disciplined and also the honesty you bring to the table. I admire that greatly. Thank you for sharing your gift with the world, it is always inspiring!
Congrats again, you certainly deserve it!

This is awesome, Elise, congratulations! You probably don’t have control over this, but it would be too cool if the talks were available online, TED-style. I would be more than happy to pay for an “online pass” of sorts.

How exciting! You’ll be fine once you’re past the first thirty seconds or so. And I think a 15 minute pause for laughter is perfectly acceptable. I mean that would mean you were being really, really funny and that’s always a good thing. 🙂

Congratulations! This is extremely exciting. You should be very proud.
And Portland has the best food trucks and wonderful coffee. Bring your appetite.
Everyone will tell you to practice, practice, practice. You should. I give 2-5 talks a year to large trade and lay audiences. Here is the best advice I’ve been given on the matter
    1) a few weeks before find a way to give your talk to a small, trusted, critical audience. Ask them to let you run through the entire talk and give you notes at the end. Revise your talk based on those notes.
    2) about a week before your big talk, give find an excuse to present it to a larger audience that is similar in its makeup to your intended audience. In your case, maybe find a way to give a talk at one of local places you’ve done craft clinics before…or something of the like.
    3) when you get nervous remember you are the expert. You’ve got this
    4) a speaker who is having fun speaking about their work gives the best talk.
5)Audience members walk in and out of talks constantly. At large events like this, there are zillions of reasons to leave a room, even if an audience member wants to stay. Whoever is sitting in the audience is there because they really want to be. In that sense, you guys are really in it together. Most audiences are supportive and remain engaged provided you do too.
Best wishes. You are no stranger to communicating in public forums. I’m sure you will hit it out of the park.
