Marchgoalsupdate

At the beginning of the year I shared nine goals for 2014.

It's been three months and here's where I stand :

take a pottery class / still need to sign up for this one. I'm thinking maybe the fall? When things slow down (is that a joke?).

Newsletter

launch a shop newsletter / DONE (and this was much easier than I expected). Sign up here.

take a trip as a family / we went to Sacramento in February which was awesome, but last week we booked a vacation to Houston in late May which we are really looking forward to.

Garden

grow a decent vegetable garden / started but at this point the word "decent" is very much a stretch. Looking forward to getting more dirt and more plants going this April.

finish decorating the house / have not made one stitch of progress on this except to find a vintage dresser that is actually going to be in the bedroom as soon as I find a bench for the entry.

Cripesinfeb

capture one photo of the three of us each month / I'm three for three with this project and it's the most fun ever.

start a podcast / DONE. hooray! My podcast officially launches Wednesday and full details will be up on the blog then.

Backyardpatio

finish off the backyard / calling this DONE although I'd still like to hang some lights.

Here4

launch the big new venture / DONE. This is, of course, MAKE29 which I have been planning since last fall. So far (two months in) I am blown away by the success and very inspired. More thoughts and musings to be shared in a future post. Obviously there is a lot of work to still go into this but it's out there which is awesome.

Success so far and lots to do (mostly in the house finish up arena which has taken a backseat while I work on a few business things). Because goals keep me going, I would like to add two more projects to my list…

  • sign up for a mama & baby music class (Ellerie loves to dance!)
  • release my stamps as a digital stamp set (ideally in June…)

See if you can find a Music Together class in your area! My daughters (2 years, 4 months) and I have been loving them! They’re really well designed and very engaging.

I found your podcast tucked away on iTunes the other day…you are off to a great start and I can’t wait to see what else you have up your sleeve.
I have lived an hour from Houston for almost three years and then again for four years in college when I lived in Galveston, so I’ll be interested in how others perceive it as a vacation destination. It isn’t my favorite city in Texas, but I will give major props to its zoo! If you are going to explore outside the city I’d recommend Moody Gardens in Galveston (particularly the rainforest exhibit) and Brazos Bend State Park for its alligators.

I’m so curious why you chose to take a vacation to Houston! I have lived there pretty much my whole life (and now I live in the ‘burbs) and I love it, but it’s not usually a destination city. It makes me happy that you’re coming though, and I hope you enjoy it! There is a lot of great stuff here!

Yes! We have been doing Music Together since my daughter was 6 months and she’s 2 now. At first I was afraid that she would love it, but that I would only tolerate it because she loved it. That is not the case. I actually look forward to going to class as well.

You’ve started off the year with a bang! I’ve also ventured into podcasting this year, so excited to hear your take on podcasting. I’m finding it very fun but oh my so much to learn! Which is a fun challenge but I am constantly following the “done is better than perfect” mantra or I never would have published a first episode 🙂

That’s a pretty impressive “done” list so far!
A question that you may have received before: Though you are done selling your rubber stamps, do you still have stock that needs to go or did you sell out? Do you anticipate selling them again in the future or will the digital stamp offering replace them?

I don’t have any stock left. I do not plan to open the shop in any long-term capacity. 🙂

Another Houstonian chiming in to say that I’m happy you’re visiting our city! I hope you have a great time! It’s not the easiest city to get to know but there’s always a lot going on.

I know you’ll find whatever works best for you and little e, but I would concur that Music Together is a wonderful program. I’m currently enrolled with my 17 months old and also did it with my two boys when they were younger. We love the music CD’s that are sent home each session and all 3 kids still love listening to them.

Fun stuff! You’ll be in my neck of the woods when you’re in Houston. I’m hoping it’s not TOO hot here by then. About the newsletter, any possible way you could give us some pointers and tips for this? I’ll be all ears on that one!

Yet another Houstonian here (well, I’m in the suburbs but close enough). I so rarely hear about people coming here for vacation so I can’t wait to see what fun things you guys do! I’ve got a 20 month old and we’ve had fun finding new kid-friendly events and things to go.
Oh, and May is a good call — any later and it’ll be far too hot to have much fun outside. :-/

First, congratulations on Make29. I waited a day before wanting to purchase the ampersand and it was already gone! All 290! Same with the letterpress poster!
    Second, stoked on your podcast!
Third, I let out a “EEEP!” I have about 8 of your stamps. And would LOVE them in a digital format. So, hooray!
Lastly, although I miss the house decorating posts, I love that you’re loving motherhood. Your words are so very inspiring.

Yeah! Such an awesome start to the year! I absolutely cant wait for your stamp release! Will you be releasing them in multiple formats and as sets or individually? I would love to be able to use them without photoshop, if possible. I cant wait to hear more about it and see whats next for Make29! Thanks for sharing your goal progress, its such a motivator. And I hope your garden takes off! Were moving, so no garden for me this year (or really anywhere in the future, Korean apartments dont really scream garden room available). But Ill just have to jealously stalk your plants!

If you need recommendations in Houston, just let me know! We live just west of the city, but I know quite a few good restaurants in Midtown & things to do with Ellerie! My daughter is almost the same age as yours. =)

I noticed your galvanized planters in one of the photos and was wondering where you got them? I’ve been looking for some for my garden, but haven’t been able to find any that are that big. Thanks!

Hi Elise! I’ve followed your blog for a while and I’m so excited to see that you are visiting Houston! I can’t wait to see what you have to say about the city after your trip. My husband and I moved here from Louisiana 5 years ago and we absolutely love it here. Great restaurants, parks, museums, and tons of fun things for kids. We have a baby girl born soon after yours and we are really enjoying re-exploring the city with a baby! I hope you and your family enjoy your time here. Make sure to check out the Heights area of town and the Tot Spot (just for babies!) at the Children’s Museum!
    Thanks,
    Janet
