Quinoabreakfast

My new go to breakfast is cooked quinoa. I make a big batch at the beginning of the week and then reheat with a bit of milk every morning. I throw in a bit of honey, cinnamon, sliced almonds & banana. It's like oatmeal, but so much more filling. So far, very much enjoying celebrating my mornings with photos in 2014.

ps. this is still our favorite savory way to enjoy quinoa.

I haven’t bought or made quinoa in ages, and since I’m finding oats just aren’t keeping me full, I’ll give this a try. Though, speaking of oats, have you ever tried steel-cut oats? Or kasha? It’s easy to make a big batch of those and reheat, just like you did with your quinoa. Yum yum.

Good morning. I am having a little trouble with instagram. I’m brand new and curious…how does one “Register” from my laptop. I only see the log in tab and it does not recognize my sign in. It only gives an option to change a password. hmmmm?? I have never used instagram before and want to follow along with your morning photos. Any thoughts?? Thanks!

I’ve never had quinoa, so I’ll have to try it. I need to dress up oatmeal, though. I buy the Quaker packets and even though they come in flavors, it’s still hard to get down.

Looks delicious! I love oatmeal and this seems like an even healthier alternative! I can’t wait to try it out.
Also, you inspired me last week and I’ve been sharing my mornings on instagram as well the past couple of days! #taylovesmornings

You are lucky. Most of my mornings are getting the kids ready for school and daycare and then go the work. My pictures would be the same on these days. Pfff.

This is such a fantastic idea! I’ve never thought of eating quinoa for breakfast. Is there a certain kind that you find works best? Not brand necessarily, but there are so many different variations of quinoa out there.

I love quinoa for breakfast, though I’ve never tried it sweet. I usually sautéed an onion and add some chopped kale just long enough to wilt it, then toss in some quinoa long enough to warm it up. It’s quick and delicious! If I’m extra hungry or have a big morning, I’ll also have a poached egg with it. Great start to the day!

I use all different brands depending on what store I’m shopping at. This stuff is traditional harvest and I follow the instructions on the box. This is 1 part quinoa to 2 parts water. bring to boil and then simmer for about 10 mins.

Did you eat a lot of quinoa while you were pregnant? I am about 10 weeks and want to try to eat as healthy as possible, especially if I could be diagnosed with the gestational diabetes which would cause me to change my diet anyway. Pop-tarts just don’t cut it anymore. 🙂

Thanks for letting us know about quinoa! I’m trying to eat better breakfasts, but I don’t love oatmeal. This will be great to try!

Do you rinse it at all? I used to make time to, but find it’s too much of a pain. Some say it’s less better when rinsed first.

Hi Elise – That sounds amazing… are you using red quinoa or white? Don’t know if it would really make a difference, but I thought I’d see. Just cooked up a batch of red and I can make that for breakfast tomorrow.

We eat a lot of quinoa. For breakfast, I usually mix it with a sautéed onion, pepper and mushroom s and add an egg on top… I’ll have to make it this way, in place of oatmeal. I love oatmeal, but it isn’t usually filling enough.
