2014goals

I'm not that big on resolutions but unless you're just visiting for the first time, you know I've very big on goals. I set monthly goals, birthday goals, business goals & yearly goals. I set big goals, small goals, overly ambitious goals and simple goals. I even wrote an ecourse on goal-setting.

My focus on goal-setting over the past few years has helped me grow creatively. I have found that the more goals I set and obtain, the more inspired (& motivated!) I feel both personally and professionally. I look forward to each year as an opportunity to dream up new intentions.

In 2014 I'd love to :

  • take a pottery class
  • start a podcast
  • finish decorating the house (hallway, master bedroom, entryway & bathrooms)
  • launch a shop newsletter
  • grow a decent vegetable garden
  • finish off the backyard
  • take a trip as a family
  • capture one photo of the three of us each month
  • take my shop in a new direction

Three major business goals and six major personal goals. They are specific (well, not that last one but that's because my plan is currently under wraps) and will involve a decent amount of work, time, effort (and in some cases, money) but the benefits should be numerous.

Goals should make you excited, not horrified (or even worse, bored) and all of these are layer three (more on that here) tasks that I cannot wait to make progress on.

Let's roll, 2014.

Your iChoose class is one of the classes that I have set a goal to “finish” this year (meaning, really do). I am excited to watch your new adventure unfold!!!

I’m excited about the podcast! I loved your stamps, so I’m excited to see what’s up next for your shop. Good luck to you as you work on your goals for the year!

Sometimes, when reading other people’s goals, I feel like a looser, and confused about just that. Other times, I feel super excited for that other person, and like cheering on, and just plain happy. This is one of those other times. So woohoo to you, Elise, and thanks for taking us along on your ride! Here’s to a grand new year!

I really enjoyed your IChoose class. I implemented so much of it, because it made sense to me. Interestingly, I replayed the class and was surprised how it spoke to me again this year in a different way. I am rejuvenated to start 2014 with my word, Expand. I am looking to stretch even more, in the very best meaning of the word. ha. Have a great day!

Your goals sound great to me. I am in much the same boat with decorating goals and also a plan to launch my own shop. I think it is healthier to set goals than resolutions. I also think the 101 in 1001 days is a bit difficult to achieve too, after doing that myself and not getting as far as I liked, mostly because I thought of it as a bucket list, when hello, there are more than 1001 days left in my life.
I think weekly, monthly and yearly goals are sensible. I also think an ultimate bucket list (that constantly updates for new things) is another great must do.
I’m pretty much running off to fetch my notepad to jot down some ideas I have now to blog about later. Thanks Elise.

    Hi
I like to make resolutions but that word sounds so stiff and formal so I will now call them goals too !
My daughters are along for the ride as my goals are very craft oriented: dye wool (using Kool aid – we tried it and it is amazing !!) make soap, make candles, make clay ornaments and not just for christmas !!
And and also catch up and stay caught up with office work… ha ha !!

    Oh, Elise. I think we’re kindred goal-setting spirits. 🙂
In addition to the bigger goals I’m setting for 2014, I’m also choosing a few simple monthly goals. I printed each of my January goals on a 3×4 card and hung them on the wall near my desk. Then when I reach my goal, I can add a square photo to the card and slip it in my Project Life album.

I don’t do resolutions, either, but goals I can handle. I’ve set a couple, but I really need to write them out and put some plans into action.

Loving Mailchimp for an enewsletter platform if you are looking for one. Best thing to do to get started is to get an account and get your list started. Growing a list is the hardest part. The sooner the better! Wish you all the best in 2014!! I’m doing OLW too, LOVING it!

I love your goals! I wish it was so easy for me to set goals! I would want to have some but as stupid as it may sound I don’t know what goals to set. Right now I have nothing I really desire to achieve. It’s definitely an annoying situation because I am one of those people who function better with goals :/

I seriously am loving this new year. I don’t want this feeling of ‘anything is possible’ to pass, so I’m setting goals, too! If I can accomplish things, then I think this motivation will keep up, magically, on its own. Right? 🙂 I always love reading your goals, and following along.

I love that you wrote “in 2014 I’d LOVE to….” goals are totally manageable when they are ones that you actually WANT and would LOVE to achieve. Not goals that you think you “should” achieve or ones you feel obligated to do. Nice examples, Elise!

Thanks for the link Elise, my process is taking shape, rather than assess prior to something landing on my goals list I am going to try listing them all (if only to get them out of my head) and then assess each one in turn. Those that are realistic for now will stay the others will be shelved perhaps to become future goals maybe not. The assessing part takes time and research and mulling over, doing this first has held up the small steps I could have taken on other goals whilst comtemplating and investigating – I am such a multi tasker and changing the order will fit me perfectly, thank you for sharing your process and tips x
