Boldintentionssept

September! Oh man.

I'm starting to get into that autumn mood. Partly because the days are getting shorter again (the worst!) and the back to school supplies have been up at Target for what feels like forever (the best!). In general, I am a summer girl. I love the heat, the extra sunshine, watermelon and corn on the cob. But this year, I am more excited than usual for the change of season. I am looking forward to needing a scarf (as much as we ever need them in southern California) and picking out pumpkins. I am looking forward to hosting Thanksgiving. I am anxious to start drinking tea in the evenings. I am excited for new projects. This will be Ellerie's first fall! That in itself is exciting.

Autumn feels like a good time to make stuff, get outside and curl up. So that's exactly what I plan to do. This month I would love to :

  • frame & hang more photos
  • go for a run or walk everyday
  • read a book

I haven't read a book since before Ellerie was born! My last two books were this one & this one (I enjoyed them both!). Lately, I haven't had the focus to read anything longer than a blog post (though I'm currently on level 135 of Candy Crush…so there is that) and I really want to dive into some actual reading this month. Hopefully it will cause a domino affect and I'll be back to devouring novels again. I recently ordered prints and am excited about a few framing projects. And now that it's cooling down and Ellerie is content in the Ergo we've got to get out for more walks.

Here we go, September. I feel like you're going to be downright fantastic.

ps. looking for something to read this fall? See a few of my past book reports here, here & here. The comment sections are filled with great suggestions too!

The very first thing I missed after having my first child was READING! Oh my it was like withdrawal (that I didn’t realize I was going through until about month 3)…consequently I started reading whatever book or magazine I felt like out loud to my daughter (sometimes kids books, sometimes craft magazines, sometimes adult fiction). Before she was one I think just the sound of my voice comforted her and she didn’t care that mommy was talking about a post apocalyptic society on the verge of collapse because mommy was close by and talking non stop. By the time she was toddling around and playing with her toys I felt guilty that I wasn’t engaging with her enough so I just read Berenstain Bears to her while she was playing…then back to my stuff. Now she’s 11 and can’t put books down. I like to think my reading had something to do with that if only to relieve guilty feelings of neglect!

Love this comment because I do this with my two year old. He started talking about Henry VIII one day and I couldn’t work out how he could possibly know about him and then I realised it was from me reading my books to him. Amazing what they pick up. Never underestimate the power of reading. 🙂

I used to read a LOT before I had my daughter. Then I stopped for a while but now she’s two and I’m picking up the pace again.
You’ll do great! You are great about fulfilling your goals!
By the way, I just read “The Ocean at the End of the Lane” by Neil Gaiman and I absolutely LOVED it. Fantasy reaches a whole new level once you have kids. It’s like seeing the world with the eyes of a kid again.

oh how i miss reading too! i get a few books in here & there, but my problem is once i start reading i can’t stop till i finish…not so good when i have a kiddo to take care of during the day 🙂
i’m stuck on level 132 of candy crush…playing that is almost worse than not being able to put down a book..haha!

Autumn is my favorite. September is good, although still blazing hot in Vegas, but October is the best. The leaves change, the weather is cool, there’s more pumpkin foods to eat.

We LOVE the Ergo for hiking! We did a lot of hiking while I was pregnant and post pregnancy and it felt so good to be outside in the fresh air, away from the city. And now that my little guy is older, I wear him on my back. I just can’t say enough good about the Ergo. (We also have a snazzy hiking backpack that my husband wears our 2 year old in 🙂 I realize you didn’t mention hiking in this post, just walking and running, but I remember you posted several times a while back about hiking with Paul.

Ok Elise, now I’m convinced..you are definitely either superwoman or you have clones who write your blog, run your shop, make great art and craft projects, sew quilts, read books, go for runs. That has to be the answer, otherwise how do you find time to look after a new baby AND get to level 135 of candy crush?I know motivation and great organisational skills must play a big part in your life, but I would love to see a time breakdown of your week. My vice is an online jigsaw website, and although I really enjoy it, afterwards I always feel I should have been doing something more productive. Seriously though..I love the blog, and maybe a little bit of your amazing energy will rub off on me. Oh, and Ellerie is so sweet, and she is a lucky girl to have such wonderful parents.

Sounds like a great list of tasks! It’s good to get outside when the weather is so nice without being too hot or too cold, and framing photos is always a good goal to have! Can’t wait to see what you come up with!

So glad you copped to the candy crush addiction too. Ugh I hate that I play it, but I’m going on month 11 of nursing and I feel like I’ve already scrolled through every IG feed, blog and magazine out there.
I am currently into “The Fault in Our Stars” and I would give it two thumbs up; you might consider adding that to your reading list.
Lastly, if I didn’t walk or run daily I might lose my mind. Being confined (not in a bad way, but it is what it is) with a baby (nursing, napping, etc.) means I need sunshine, fresh air and endorphins more than ever. And so does baby. We love our walks.

Kids learn to love books by seeing people they love reading. You were not negecting her, you were showing and teaching her how amazing books are!

    Hi Elise,
Don’t know if you’ve read this but I loved it – http://www.amazon.com/Momma-Zen-Walking-Crooked-Motherhood/dp/1590304616 It’s a good read for new or soon to be mama’s.

I’d LOVE to read (or workshop on) something on how you “make it happen” with baby, too! That is what inspires me to no end (and is the big mysterium to me) on your blog. 🙂

Have you read the divergent series? I’m about to reread them again since the next book is coming out at the end of october! I’ve been in the mood to reread books more than start new ones for some reason.

I love this too as this is exactly what I do. My son is only 5 months old now but I have been reading to him from the start. Just as you say he loves is as its just the sound of my voice. When he was really tiny it allowed him to settle and go to sleep and now he is spending more and more time awake and playing he still loves to hear my voice and look over at me reading to him while he is playing/rolling around/chewing on everything and anything within reach! Can’t recommend reading out loud enough.

That’s awesome. I read somewhere that the number one thing that turns kids into readers is seeing their parents read. I hope it’s true. 🙂
