What a delight! These photos are precious.
I am not in any way saying that what I am about to share is relevant to you, but I feel compelled to pass along the thought in the sake of community caretaking…
I know many women who have suffered with postpartum depression (PPD), and what has been such a surprise to me is that a vast majority of these women really enjoyed pregnancy. Many of them even delighted in it. They might have had a few hiccups here & there, but all in all, pregnancy was a joyful time. Experiencing PPD was just a complete shock. I have seen this especially with women who had children before their other friends or siblings, and so perhaps were not surrounded by a peer group who easily recognized the signs. In many cases, I know women who were so surprised by the depression that it took them months to realize that they were even experiencing it; they were simply unprepared for the idea of it, and they have all told me that they look back & wish that they had addressed it sooner, because as soon as they did, their time with their babies improved immeasurably.
I also know many women who have had difficult pregnancies, and although time with a newborn can be challenging, very few of them have had issues with true depression post-birth. It is almost as if they had already experienced such difficulty while pregnant that when the baby arrived safely, a calmness simply took hold. (Obviously, there are exceptions to everything that I have mentioned, I am just making general comments, nothing more.)
Again, Elise, I am not IN ANY WAY saying that you are struggling or suffering. I cannot stress that point enough!! I just know that you have such a lovely online community, and I wanted to share a note & some love with all new moms out there who may read this to say that it is okay to struggle, and it is okay to say — I need some help, whatever that help may look like. PPD can be so isolating, but no mother needs to be alone. Help is available in so many ways, and experiencing PPD in no way means that a woman is failing to be a good mother. Even if you are far away from everyone you know & love, and no one can visit, there are people who can & will help you. Talk to your doctor. I promise, there are other women who have experienced the same thing, and you can find support. (Elise, I don’t mean you personally when I say “you,” just the universal community!)
Love to all.LikeLike

I can’t imagine how sad you are to be apart from Paul for a while again and Paul to be apart from you sweet girls, but you don’t know how I’m relieved that you finally gave birth to Ellerie. It might be strange to hear me say things like this because I have never met you in person and don’t know you very much (though I know some about you from what I can tell through your page!) and you don’t know about me. It’s just you are so inspiring! 🙂

Love these shots. Man hands on a baby really show the scale of how tiny your new one is. And it captures how gentle a man can be. Love these images.
And as a navy wife who with baby #1, hubby left us on day 5 of our new son’s life. And with baby#2, hubby didn’t make it back for the birth. You’ve got this! Life with daddy will still have all those breathless, beautiful memories when he is there. In the meantime, you have special time with your daughter that are your beautiful memories.
Again, you’ve got this!LikeLike

Elise, these pictures are so precious!
As a new mom with tons of lovely pictures myself I can’t help but wonder, how do you share them with friends and family and/or how do you save them from getting lost forever? Are your pictures in the cloud? On a hard drive? On USBsticks? Is putting them in blogposts a way of making a backup? Are they already included in a project life spread, meaning did you print them right away? Also, do you bother to rename the files (because that is so time consuming while taking care of a little one)?
I used flickr, but I’m not that fond of it anymore. But on the other hand I’ve never had pictures more dear to me than the ones from Olivia’s first few weeks I would hate it if I would loose them somehow and not have them saved somewhere. (I’m very good at losing things, in April I lost the SDcard with a week’s worth of pictures of my then almost 2 month old and I’m still sad about it).
don’t bother to answer untill after your leave, go and take a few more pictures, I love the Ellerie showLikeLike
