MAYboldintentions

April blew February and March out of the water. My bold intentions for the month were set and almost met. The bedroom still needs some work, but it will get there. We are closer to having a welcoming space which is the goal. And the baby girl has everything she "needs" for those first few months. This month we'll get the carseat installed, everything washed, the bassinet set up in our bedroom and we'll officially be good to go.

But really though, April. Thank you. I needed you. I hit my stride with the GDM diet and this pregnancy in general. This house feels more like a home thanks to help from my parents and rad in-laws. I have a date and time written in Sharpie in my calendar for when Paul's flight will land in San Diego. It's strange how a month of no chaos or surprises after weeks of nothing but can feel like real live magic.

I had a harder time coming up with action items to focus on this month. May feels like the cusp. It's the end of the beginning (my pre-motherhood days) but at the same time, we're not quite there yet. So goal-setting feels odd. How can I pick three things to appropriately celebrate this time in my life?

Here's what I came up with, so anti-climatic, but sometimes that's okay.

  1. continue the daily walks…always.
  2. take more photos.
  3. wrap up all projects.
  4. make my bed everyday. (bonus item : I hoping to establish a habit.)

I want to enter June energized and without much on my plate except preparing my body and mind to welcome this baby girl into our lives.

Here we go, May.

Hi, nice to meet you. I’m Eri and from Japan.
I’m writing this to just let you know that I admire you!!! I’ve been visitng this page only for a few weeks but the weeks are enough to tell me that you’re wonderful. I don’t know how I can express with words because of my poor English, though. You really inspire me and encourage me to be a better person/girl/woman. Thank you!!!

    Is that your street Elise?
To my Chicago eyes it looks kind of… scary.

Make it a goal to pack a hospital bag. Then when the time comes you are set to go. πŸ™‚

Some unsolicited advice from a mother of 2 – make sure to sleep in and take naps – it gets more uncomfortable as you near the end of pregnancy, and it’ll be your last chance for uninterrupted sleep in a while. Also, make sure to get another massage – you won’t regret it! πŸ™‚

It’s not anti-climactic if it works for you.

I use to have trouble making my bed every morning until someone told me that by making your bed your room will look 80% better right off the bat. I have stuck with this habit for many years now and it still makes me happy!

I always feel like I’ve had a productive day when I manage to make the bed! Sometimes the little goals are the best xx

I NEVER make my bed. Haha. I plan on going on daily walks too to keep my pregnant body from getting stiff. I’m also doing prenatal yoga once a week and LOVE it.

Ever since I had a baby (and now I have 3), the two things I do each day that make me feel put together and human no matter what happens are: take a shower and make the bed.
I can’t tell you how good it feels to have a put-together bed to crash into at the end of the day. I think that’s a great goal. Oh, and sometimes the bed and shower don’t happen until late, but that’s ok. They still happen.

Ever since we sold our house (in 2008), I’ve made my bed every morning (unless my husband is the last one out or doesn’t make it). I think it was because I was pregnant and we had the house looking good in case any one wanted to see it. Now I don’t feel right if it’s not. I just do it right away and then (I have 4 boys) at least one room looks good.
Thanks for sharing pieces of your life. I’ve enjoyed reading your blog!

Love the make the bed goal! I used to never make my bed until a couple months ago. Like someone else said it makes your room feel so much cleaner and calmer!
I wrote out my May goals today too (I took your Big Picture Class). I’m loving the structure of the monthly goals, and find I’m getting so much more done these days!
As always, thank you for being such an inspiration!!

    Wise girl. πŸ™‚
I’ll share with you the best piece of advice l received before having my daughter…..
    don’t listen to anyone’s advice !
I got so overwhelmed with reading books, listening to what everyone (including the nursing clinic) was telling me….l ended up paralysed (not too mention sleep deprived, recovering from a caesarean and hormonal). It truly is something where you just have to let go to, and find your own way. You, your baby and husband….will be not like anyone else….and what worked for them may not have worked for them.
Although l agree about the shower…..some days, that was all l could accomplish !

I’m so excited for you! That feeling of being on a roller coaster about to take a that plunge into something crazy and amazing. You’re gonna love motherhood.
I would take daily walks (I’m 6 months along)…but I think (I hope) I’m getting enough exercise just chasing around a 3 year old because when I get the chance all I want to do is sit πŸ™‚
