Week of : February 11 – February 17.

What happened this week? It was Valentine week and while that meant very little as far as what we did, I decided to keep the LOVE theme alive and well with this week's 3×4 cards. I also finished up the baby quilt and had friends in town for the weekend.

Anything special in the spread? Two inserts this week. One is similar to what I have done before – I took a coin pocket page and slipped in 2×2 inch scraps of fabric from the quilt. I didn't have enough patterns to fill all the pockets, so I added in some extra little embellishments and sewed those pockets closed. The blurred out pocket is a letter sticker with the baby's initial.

Techniques this week : There is another insert as well – on Saturday, Paul's Valentine's card from Spain arrived. I, of course, cried at the mailbox and wanted to include it in the spread. I opened it and stuck it and the envelope in a horizontal 8×10 pocket page. The card floated around in there so I machine stitched around it to hold it in place. Love that you can see his handwriting (and the fact that he used a Christmas postage stamp), the front of the card and then his note on the inside.

Overall thoughts : I love the overall PINK and RED theme to this week which was semi-intentional. Love feeling excited about this project all over again in 2013. And a note about that heart pocket, that's a printable from Paislee Press that I printed on transparency. The "best year yet" is a peek at next week's spread that you just see through the heart.

Ratio of iPhone photos to "real camera" photos : 5 to 2.

Ratio of photos taken by Elise to photos taken by Paul : All were mine this week. BUT I have a bunch of photos from Paul that will be in next week. He took an off-base excursion and was thoughtful enough to grab a few shots for me.

Supplies used : Seafoam core kit, Studio Calico butterfly and hexagon stickers & heart wood chips, Elise Joy ps I love you stamp, Paislee Press printable card, Freckled Fawn swell wood chip, Meredith Tilton heart 3×4 card, A Pair of Pairs xoxo printable, Amy Tangerine diecuts (house and elephant), Elle's Studio heart die cut, Martha Stewart & Avery labels.

Tools used : Design A pocket pages, coin pocket page, horizontal 8×10 pocket page, Fiskars corner rounder, Zig Millenium pen, Rotatrim paper trimmer, Office Depot date stamp, staz-on ink. All photos were printed at home on my HP Photosmart 2575 printer on Office Depot semi-gloss photo paper.

Project Life is a memory-keeping system created by Becky Higgins. I use photos, text and stuff to document our life weekly. You can see all the posts from 2012 here and 2013 here. Do you have a question about how I am tackling this project? Check here.

I love that you included your quilt fabric again. I am going to have to do that with the quilt I am making for my sister. It’s gray and is your triangle pattern from last year 🙂

Hey Elise, was hoping you could share about how long a weekly spread takes you…I have done project Life before but as soon as 2013 started, I have been spending HOURS per week and obsessing over it a bit- Do you ever look at your pages and not like how they look? If you do, hoe do you deal with it? Just call it done or move things around? This may be a whole post topic, but if you have a chance I would love to hear your insight because I always enjoy your pages! Thanks 🙂

I have been feeling so inspired by you, Elise, after being stuck in a rut for far tooooo long. Being a mom is very hard work, and with a demanding, full-time job at a hospital, and a husband who does not deploy but is wants my every moment’s attention (which sometimes makes me wish he would deploy….and I know that’s not nice…), I often find it exhausting to even think about working on my journals or PL. But I do need this time for me, and it should be fun and relaxing, shouldn’t it? It has not been lately, so I have found myself mindlessly surfing the internet just to get away from it all, and I run into you and your loveliness which is like a breath of fresh air that I desperately needed. If she were 46 and in my position, what would Elise Blaha Cripe do? A lot! So I am, too. Thanks for being here, and thanks for being you. By the way, you know a lot more than I did at your age, so with your skills and talent, everything will be great. And yes, when you are 46, you will look back on all of this moving and jumping through hoops and let out a big sigh and a chuckle and feel good about yourself because you got through it all. With finesse and style, too.

Love that you incorporated the fabric into your PL album! I’m wondering where the “bun in the oven” card is from. Would love to include one in our album. Just found out we’re expecting #2. Thanks for all the inspiration! Recently received my stamp order from you – love them!

Maybe 1-2 hours? I never really know the answer to this question. I will work on getting a post together about my process outside of just the materials I use and how I print photos – great idea. 🙂

Obviously I respect your right to the amount of privacy you choose to have re: blogging and your private life, but out of curiousity, why the secrecy over your chosen name for the future little one? Just wondering if there was a reason behind this particular choice that you felt comfortable sharing.

I imagine that quilt insert is going to be even more awesome in a few (or many) years time! Kinda makes me cry just thinking about it and I’m not even pregnant!! Love the way you displayed the card too. I don’t like to be opening up pockets and things so love that it’s all there to be seen.

It is a personal choice, just like everything else. I think people LOVE to give opinions on names before the baby comes, but after they do not have as much negative stuff to say, suggestions, ideas, concerns, etc. I am going to avoid any undo stress and keep the name to myself. Never even crossed my mind before I have a little baby photo to share with it. 🙂

Loving the colour scheme on this one, it’s a bit different from what I’m used to from you, but I really love the warm shades you’ve gone for here, very fitting for the season of love 🙂 Very beautiful!
And I’m totally in love with your newest quilt. ❤ Fantastic combination of patterns.

We kept the name to ourselves too, for pretty much the same reason. In fact, as soon as our daughter was born, the doctors and nurses in the room said “Okay, now you have to tell us her name!!”. 😉 We were so totally serious about not telling anyone at all her name before she was born. 😉
