This past weekend was probably the nicest, warmest, sunniest couple days we're going to get this month. I figured it was now or never if we were going to cross "swim in the ocean" off our summer manifesto, so before lunch on Sunday we headed down to the beach. I think Paul (and all the other sunbathers – there was no one in the water) were more than a little surprised when I dove in right away.

And promptly got tossed by the waves. (But my sunglasses stayed on!)

Per usual, all I could think was,

"We have got to do this more often."

Summer, you're my favorite.

    So is the water super cold there or something? Is that why people don’t swim in the ocean? I would have assumed that California would be good for swimming in the ocean.

    I love swimming in the ocean. I got to in San Diego in July. It is so wonderful being “in” the force of nature.

    Its usually in the 70s and the water is cold. The surfers wear wetsuits usually!

    Swimming in the ocean is my favorite thing about the beach! Sadly, I went with my best friend for a weekend in June and the weather and waves were so awful, we didn’t get to swim! 😦 You’re making me want to try for one more beach weekend before fall comes!

    It is so strange not to see people in the ocean in Summer! Being an Aussie our waters are packed with swimmers.
    Your water must be very cold.
    Your photos are gorgeous! Can I just say that you would look so adorable with a Mia Farrow pixie cut. The last photo of you with your hair and long neck…..beautiful.

    Awesome. Your photos are always SO adorable. Glad you got enjoy the water! California is truly magical. I visited for the first time this passed weekend and crammed as much as was sanely possible into those few short days. I may have seen every beach in the greater Los Angeles area by Sunday! On my last morning there, before my flight, my boyfriend and I took a walk on a pier at Manhattan Beach and watched early morning surfers, and planes taking off from LAX. It was very cool to see them take off and then to later see the arial view of the pier we were at from the plane while the plane turned back east and flew out over Los Angeles. I tried getting a shot with my iPhone from the plane window but by the time I was able to turn it back on after take-off, it was too late. 😦 I’ll be back in three weeks though and definitely plan on being a bit of a rebel and getting that shot when I’m taking off again! lol

    The water in Santa Cruz is 57F. I can hardly stick my toes in without freezing! Have you and Paul been out at night to see the glowing waves yet? We saw them when we visited Santa Barbara for a friend’s wedding last October. Really neat thing to see.

    Adorable! I miss the ocean;) We at least got out to Busan in S. Korea this spring, but more pool diving than ocean swimming for us. You are right~ do it more! I think of our time in Monterey and I toward the last 6 months I made it my mission to be at the beach 2x a week. I’m so glad I did!

    I do love summer too! Aside from a vacation from work, my children are also excited going to the beach. It’s a perfect family bonding especially when all of my siblings go home.
