New40loaves

Bread no. 36 : whole wheat hamburger buns.

Adjustments : I cut some sugar – used a bit less than 1/4 C.

Notes : we had this dream of making the perfect hamburger last night. Sunday we picked up grass-fed ground beef at our farmer's market and cooked it on the grill. (This grill is going to make our dinners 100x more fantastic this spring and summer.) I am not sure what we were expecting, but WOW – they were good. Instead of the usual ketchup, lettuce tomato, I added some pesto ailoi (made by mixing a bit of our normal pesto with some greek yogurt – in about a 2 to 1 ratio – and adding a bit of salt) and baked fresh buns to go with.

Review : amazing. When I make them again, I'll squash them down a bit more so they turn out a bit flatter and wider – but that's it.

I’m not sure is you want he burgers or the buns flatter, but I there’s a trick if you make an indent in the middle if your burger, it will stay flatter when it cooks!

That looks amazing! We had burgers last night and I was thinking they’d be so much better with homemade buns, so I’ve got to try this recipe out next time.

Ummm, those look killer! I bet they were 100 times better than the ready-made dough that we used for the slider buns. Will definitely have to try this!

The burger – and the buns – look great! We’re looking at a new grill. Do you recommend the grill you have? If you do, do you mind telling me what grill you have? Thank you!

These look AMAZING! I made slow cooker BBQ Beef tonight with homemade “clean” BBQ sauce and these buns would have been perfect for that. I am going to toast a slice of sprouted wheat bread and pile up the BBQ open face style then top with coleslaw (savory not sweet) and some dill pickles! Next time I make this dish I should try these buns. Have you baked with sprouted flour yet? I want to try soon, but haven’t had a chance yet.

We have a small Weber grill that was a wedding gift. I asked Paul his thoughts and he said our current grill is out of production but that you cannot go wrong with Weber. 🙂

I’m so curious about that delicious looking side dish on the plate…I adore all of your recipes, so I know that accompaniment is just as wonderful as the burger. Thanks!

Thank you! I completely forgot to check back and see your reply. Is it one of the mini-Webers? That’s what we have, and my husband says he’s tired of bending over a little grill! It’s also hard to fit much if we’re trying to do meat and veggies or extra meat. Do you find that a problem?
