A few months ago, I was asked to write an article about my blogging story for Artful Blogging. I wrote it while on a plane, read through it once & sent it off.

When I saw it in print and realized it was a few pages and included so many photos too, I was beyond excited and so honored. What a cool thing.

I have said this a few times, but starting a blog was the best decision I have ever made for my professional life. And since Paul's been deployed, I've realized what a huge difference in my attitude and personal life too. Best hobby ever.

    I like the design of that magazine. I have to say I am a bit surprised they can get a magazine made with so many photos, since web specs for photos (72 dpi JPG) and printing press specs (300 dpi TIFF) are so very different! If someone has taken a photo, adapted it for web use only, and deleted the original, then you can’t use it in a print format.
    Hey Elise – based on what I mentioned in my email to you… (new small business) well I am starting to see where your energy comes from. I am super excited and I get more excited and less afraid as my ideas take shape. Suddenly I have a zillion marketing ideas, more than I can handle practically, ideas for pricing, ideas for product/service, I’m writing copy for a website, and researching equipment I have to buy now.
    At some point I am going to have to try and sell this baby to an actual person and make some money. That is so so scary. But I presented my idea to a small group/class I take every week and that was my first time “talking” about it. It was hard!
    But the point is, boy small business is a time sucker! Every minute I can think of more things to do! And more ideas and more. eee.

    The images the magazine designers selected nicely represent your emphasis on design, color, form. The layout is lovely. It captures you, your art well. I will surely look for the magazine.

    I just picked up this issue of Artful Blogging and was very moved by your article! I already feel like we have some things in common because I’ve been through a deployment with my husband, love paper/crafting, love blogging (though I don’t find enough time for it) and also just moved to southern California.     I also have a business. The best that I ever did for it was when made a blog for the business itself. It made me catch many clients than my daily opening. You did the same and I am sure that you will have the best of it.
