Wreath4

I got my wreath completed.

Wreath3

Making a driftwood wreath to hang above the fireplace has been my goal since that first week in the new place when I found a handful of driftwood. Originally, I intended to make it more "wreath like" but lots of pinterest searching and an un-official poll on instagram helped me see that a sunburst was the way to go.

Wreathglue

I didn't have a plan to hold it all together. I entertained the idea of a wreath form, nails & a staple gun. But finally just settled on hot glue. I used a plate as a circle template and hot-glued one piece to the next. Some of them held really well and others took a few more coats of glue.

Wreath5

It's fragile to move, but has been hanging on the wall for two days now and it's fine when it's not being touched. I am sure it will break on the drive back down to my house – I built it at my parents' place – but then I'll just glue it back together again.

Wreath2

Temporarily, it's hanging on a piece of twine, but when I stick it above our mirrored fireplace, I'll use fishing line to attach it to the ceiling. Then it will look as though it's floating. Hopefully I can get it to hang okay and will be sure to share photos when I do.

I am going to continue to collect driftwood and may still make a more traditional wreath for our front door. We'll see. I love driftwood. I never thought of myself as a "beach girl" and turns out, I totally am.

This looks so lovely. Doesn’t it just make you think where all those pieces of wood came from and what stories they could tell … and now they are loved by you!

love it! as with all your projects. i’m plannin’ on making the very large canvas (at your entryway) with words of favorite bible verses – have a bare wall in my large living room it’ll work for.
i also wanted to say that i was listing in my mind my favorite go-to blogs and listed yours as one of my top 5. then i was considering why i listed those blogs and i realized that your blog is for inspiration. you (your blog) exists here on the www to inspire others, like me. oh you sell stuff because of it but your blog in it’s simpliest form – inspires me!!! that is why i keep coming back. it is like you have a blog specifically for me (and everyone else). so – thank you for inspiring me.

I did think about that. My dad wasnt sure how wood glue would hold up with driftwood and the hot glue is pretty easy to use, so we will see!

I am REALLY impressed that nothing is holding that wreath together but hot glue!! I hope it makes it home 🙂

Very, very cute. It occurs to me that manner of extra support might be looping fine gauge wire around each stick, maybe an inch from the origins of the starburst…..but that would definitely change the aesthetic, and I really dig the current, natural look.

Looks really nice. thank goodness for super glue. It’s like a crafter’s mcgiver (or mcgruver for SNL fans) tool. Like duct tape it can hod together pretty much anything. I can’t wait to see it hanging in front of the mirror.

you don’t think of yourself as a beach girl? It’s funny – I see you as the epitome of a California Girl – in fashion, attitude, mentality, etc. And beach and california go hand in hand 🙂

I understand the fascination of driftwood. I have been collecting small pieces for some time and I know that sooner or later you find a way to use it. Your wreath looks really nice!
P.S. In case you wonder how I got here, it is through the Handmade with Love on TypePad list 🙂
