GraphicHappy Tuesday.

After posting my business cards yesterday I got a question about how I made the text look like the photo was visible underneath it. I filmed a quick (less than 5 1/2 minute) video to show how PSE can be used to get the look. As mentioned in the video, I have no formal photoshop training so everything I do is quite possibly the least proper method. But hey – it's effective! Watch below to see how I created the two graphics above.

I strongly guess that I do so many things the least proper way…but I’m okay with that, too, because it works for me. Such a fun stop for me, thanks for a good read always!

Another great tool if you just want to do a text mask is the Type Mask Tool. You can get it by right clicking on the Text Tool button (I run PSE 10, not sure if it’s in PSE 9 or earlier versions?). Great tutorial!! The clipping mask function was totally new to me.

Do you have another source you use to figure out photoshop or do you learn by trying? I have PSE9 but haven’t got much beyond the basics yet…

Juat had an epiphany THIS weekend with one of Cathy Zielske’s tutorials – managed to do FOUR Project Life pages in PSE8 in an hour! I guess I had a mental block against the layers idea…
I can’t wait to go home tonight and try this!! It almost makes sense in my head, now that I’m “getting it!” Thanks for the tutorial!

Happy to hear it it! Most of what I know I have picked up from playing around, but I have also got a lot of great information from the digital videos Cathy shares on her blog : http://cathyzielske.typepad.com/my_weblog/

on a PC you can always right click the photo and hit “create clipping mark.” Does the same thing 🙂

thanks; i learned something new! i’ve used clipping masks for frames but never with text and photos…(duh) 😉 no formal training here whatsoever but another quickie is to just right click and duplicate the photo layer so you don’t have to worry about lining up the photos….. cool stuff……i also need to upgrade my ancient version of PSE! LOL
