MAGICCAKE

Lots of magic happened last week.

I got through my first real tough time of this deployment. Of course, the whole thing still seems long and terrible, but it does not seem unbearable. And that's awesome. That's magic.

I started watching Friday Night Lights on netflix instant. I am absolutely embarrassed to admit how many episodes I got through over the past few days, but I will say this – it's a fantastic show and just what I needed. And when I say "fantastic" I really mean magic.

I found my creative energy again. It always ebbs and flows, but I am so grateful for that magical burst last week. I am hoping for it to stay a little while longer.

I had visitors on Saturday. I needed to see friends and it was magic that it worked out for them to come down.

And last but not least, I baked my first ever round cake from scratch. This recipe is nothing short of magic.

Did you notice anything magical in your life last week?

I finished a chapter of my dissertation – which was kind of magic. One chapter to go.
I LOVE Friday Night Lights. The relationship between Coach and Mrs. Coach is so nuanced – best part of the show, in my view.

We went to the Monterey Bay Aquarium with my husband’s little cousins (ages 6 and 4) and they had never been. Their excitement at seeing all the fishes, and hearing their ecstatic little voices call out our names to “COME HERE!” and “LOOK! LOOK AT THIS FISH!!” was magic. Makes us excited to start our own family and share those moments with our own children 🙂
Also magic: paying to have their faces painted. It was magic because Billy thinks he’s Spider Man (for real, he has to wear “regular” shirts over his Spider Man shirts so that people won’t realize who he is) and we got his entire face painted like Spider Man. The look on his face when the guy showed him in the mirror was priceless. He shot webs at us the rest of the day 😉

Enjoy your cake! I was late to the FNL game also. I think I watched the first season in one weekend and wondered how did I never watch this before. I am glad you got through a rough patch.

I just finished the whole 5 seasons in (I’m sad to say) 2 weeks! I couldn’t stop watching it! I can’t believe I didn’t watch it when the show was on. The first two seasons are better than the rest but still an amazing show and cast!

LOVE FNL! So glad you’ve gotten hooked too. I watched it when it was on, and I just went through the first four seasons on Netflix recently.

magic…I have developed a new motto for my life: magic exists in the moments that matter. This helps me to remain in those moments and let the other, non-essential moments pass through with little notice, because they don’t matter.
For me this week had many magical moments: my husband returned from his out-of-town job for good and got work closer to home; we invested in a body solid back extension machine and I used it lots this weekend and I am feeling those core muscles today, and I am loving it; I decided to give in to the fact that I heart running and will be a life long runner (my whole life I’ve avoided running…now I can’t live without it); I got my mojo on and painted two in a series of many crow paintings that will be debuted at a Halloween art show; I spent Saturday night on my boat with my family and good friends and enjoyed my good fortune of being alive right now. MAGIC!

I made a magic cake too. I made it for my daughter’s birthday party and when I cut it open, all the kids actually gasped! It was awesome. http://brandyink.typepad.com/brandyink/2011/09/the-art-party.html

I have been wanting to try that cake. The magic in my week was playing with my daughter in the rain and cooking with veggies from my garden (i’m a first time gardener). There was so much more magic than that but I don’t want to brag… 🙂
I love this idea, Magic Mondays. So great to focus on the positive. And by positive, I mean magic!

Magic is starting the 2nd round of job apps (now for post-grad school) with such a better outlook than 5 years ago. I don’t even know how, but somewhere along the way I finally got the idea of finding the right job FOR ME. So thankful for that change.
PS – I love FNL. A couple of days after a particularly intense FNL marathon, a friend said “Um, I know you live in the South now, but when did you start saying Y’all so much?” Thank you, Tami Taylor.

Magic for me was the dedication ceremony we had yesterday for our second baby. After he was born, we found out that he has Down Syndrome. It hasn’t all been easy, but we celebrated our love for him with friends and family, and with his big sister who loves hims so much, (she is three years old) and it was a beautiful day. The type of day that feeds your soul!
Although my husband is not in the armed forces, last year we had to spend three months apart due to his work, and while it is not one year, we missed him a lot. It flew by keeping really busy. Just enjoy this time you have for yourself. It brought me joy just thinking about projects I was gonna do, taking care of my then two year old and being with family and friends. Hang in there.

My magical day was this weekend when friends of mine asked me to visit. It was a nice break from long days on base in the barracks! Home cooking, coffee, and long talks made a long couple of weeks better. Some people never know how a small simple gesture like inviting you over, going for a walk, or grabbing coffee can make your day better!

Oh, Elise, I’m at the very same place with Friday Night Lights! How I missed this wonderful series is beyond me, but I’m ready to fake a serious illness to stay home and watch it all day. Magical is an understatement!

my most favorite tv series to date – i think i might have cried tears when we watched the last episode. kyle chandler and connie britton are absolutely amazing and it was such a real show – every character made it’s way into my heart — so glad you are loving it – and don’t feel bad about watching so many – there is something “magical” about the ability to watch a show you love as much as you want when you want – enjoy it :)!!

Fnl is up next on my netflix instant. Not embarrassing, you are young! I am nearing 40 and just spent the better parts of the last three days watching episode after episode; 16 to b exact of Felicity. My husband teases me that I like cheesy teenage comedies, he’s right I do enjoy cheesy teenage comedies.!

It was magic that the four of us went out for pizza tonight (considering that my oldest hasn’t felt well for two months and has another MRI scheduled for Thursday for unexplained seizures).

FNL got me through several rough weeks last summer when I had a colicky baby and a husband doing rotations and studying for step one of the medical boards. Best show ever.
