Hooray! It's September, and that means I am working on a season minibook again. During the summer I shared my progress about once a week and I am hoping to do the same again for fall. This book was a fun one to put together. I chose a rich color palette and somehow that inspired me to do something different with my album this season. I want to make the whole thing feel fancier and am going to be attempting this by adding lots of texture, layers and different techniques.

At least that is the plan.

Above are the first three pages.

getting started with the autumn minibook from elise blaha on Vimeo.

I filmed a video to talk about them in more detail and to also share two tutorials – one for creating the masked shape that you see on the first page and one for creating a small kraft envelope like mine. **PS. just rewatched the video and saw that the audio was out of sync for a few parts. sorry about that. working on finding that bug and fixing it for the next videos.**

I love this project and am so looking forward to seeing where this book will go.

Do you want to save your fall season in the same way? Watch the book trailer here and pick up a copper or white stamped mixed paper book.

hey Elise, welcome home. It’s a holiday long weekend here in Canada and after two full action packed days of late summer activities I was really dragging my feet and feeling lazy today. Then I watched your video and I just wanted to tell you … that you really inspire me and just that wee 7 mins helped get my art/desiagn mojo back and I’m now feelin’ back on track with my intended creative Monday – more collage drawings
    thank you merci !! Susan

elise, i just wanted to say that your videos are fantastic! i’m not working on a book right now, but have plans to do a 1 year book for my son (who is only 5 months now – never too early to plan!) and you give me so many ideas. you really inspire me to just go ahead and do it and not get hung up on it being perfect… if i do that, then we’ll never have any memory books!

Question — Are you going to be selling the holiday books again this year? When are they going to debut?? Sorry for asking so soon, but I’m getting totally excited about Thanksgiving/Christmas/etc — I’m blaming it on the fact that it’s 78 degrees today … which is a far cry from the 112 it has been.
    Anyways… Yeah… So… yeah 🙂

Oh hooray! I loved watching the progress of the summer book. One day, I will buy one of your lovely kits and build a book of my own. One day I will also learn how to make cheese. (The two being unrelated, except that they both require more time than I seem to have). But in the meantime, it’ll be fun seeing how you pull this one together.

Yay! I’m waiting for my book to arrive in the mail (I was late ordering AND it’s now a holiday weekend) so I can get started. But in the mean time, I’ve started a book from scratch…my first attempt at anything of this sort. So far so good. Thanks for all the inspiration!
It’s totally “fall” in Alaska right now. The leaves are simultaneously turning yellow and falling off the trees. But our fall lasts for like 2 days so that’s not unexpected.

I think that goal says “try some new soup recipes”… If you try only one soup recipe this fall, this should be that one: http://www.101cookbooks.com/archives/coconut-red-lentil-soup-recipe.html
    Seriously delicious!

Ohhh man I still have to finish my summer minibook and start my autumn one! I’m so in awe of your ability to document life as it happens. I’m such a procrastinator. Hey, do you have/are you going to make a “save your season” blog button for autumn? 🙂

I love that your adding texture!! I added felt to my autumn book that I think I’m gonna sew a picture onto! I am so excited to see your christmas book too!!! I was wondering, in a couple of your books you have grid paper (blue and white & yellow and white) and was wondering where you got it from? I love it but can’t find it but actually don’t even know where to look =)

yellow and white I design and have printed myself. I think the blue and white youre talking about is really gray and white and that I make myself too. 🙂
