Stripedress2

A while back, I pinned this skirt tutorial and decided right away to try and make a maxi skirt. I picked up two yards of silk striped fabric sewed the edges together, added elastic at the top and hemmed the bottom. Super simple.

Then I pulled it on and realized that horizontal stripes + too much fabric = fail.

As a skirt, not very flattering. But pulled up to chest high and belted? It worked!

I wore it to dinner our last night in Palm Desert and had Paul snap these photos. All the standing-still ones looked terrible because I am awkward and the sunlight was so harsh. So what you are seeing here are the twirling ones. Once again, it appears that people look their best non-staged.

additional outfit details : j.crew belt, martin & osa sandals, kate spade sunglasses.

That last picture of you smiling is the best! There really are no accidents in photography. I love candids! This dress is perfect for summer and I love the way you have it belted ❤

Adorable, Elise! I love it. And I am glad you could simply turn it into a dress 🙂 A fortunate accident! I bet you can dress it up and down with different belts, shoes, etc…

OMG-just darling! I agree, even on a little thing like you, I think a midy would have been too much. Fabulous revamping. . .

I LOVE it! I’ve been wanting to buy a sewing machine forever but outside of one very badly sewn Jessica McClyntock dress in 7th grade Home Ec I’ve not sewn a thing. Love the stripes and the bright belt, sooo cute. Love the twirling too.
