enJOY it

an archived personal and craft blog from Elise Blaha Cripe.

As I was gearing up to start writing this post last week, I stumbled on this blog post from April 2007. I was a senior in college and graduating in a month with a business major. I was jobless, but clearly hopeful.

I wish I could go back to that Elise from four years ago and give her a high five. She had no idea what she was doing. It was rough to stay calm and focused that final year of college. But Elise from four years ago, you did it. You now have a job that brings in less money, but more joy than you knew was possible. You carved it out slowly and made it yours. Check plus.

I'm halfway through my first year of working for myself. I set a financial goal at the beginning of the year and then came up with four measurable goals to help hit that number.

I'm overjoyed to say that halfway through the year, I'm halfway to my financial goal. There may or may not have been a big highlighted goal chart on my wall the past month and there certainly was a happy dance when that final sale popped up on my iPhone at the pool yesterday. (It was so happy, Paul hopped up to our room to get champange and we promptly poured mimosas.)

(Yes, it was morning.)

(Yes, I am still pinching myself.)

(Yes, talk about cutting it close.)

As a recap, these are my goals / and their current status :

  • Develop 50 new products / I'm currently at 15
  • Sell at a live craft fair / done with hopefully more to come
  • Streamline expenses / done and always working on it
  • Turn the BIG mini class into a book / scratched, but it's available as a PDF

Obviously I have a lot to do on the products front, but things have progressed well in other areas.

My main goal for the rest of the year is to develop quality products and provide the support to help sell them (similar to what I have done with the videos and tutorials for the summer book).

Within the next few weeks I plan on relaunching both my blog and personal website. I am super excited about changing things up around here.

I am also going to be teaching an expanded BIG mini workshop IN REAL LIFE in November. I will share more details when I have them, but I am really excited about developing new material and teaching face to face. I'm hoping it succeeds and opens doors to more in person teaching opportunities.

So that's that! I can't wait to really get back to work and kick it all into high gear. The plus side of Paul being away is that I can really spend some time stretching my creative muscles and working. I might as well do it now, right?

Congrat’s Elise, I found your blog recently but it is really inspiring me. We graduated college at the same time and in the past 4 years I have been fast tracking up the corporate ladder meeting every goal I thought I had. When I recently moved to Germany I had a life shake up. I started thinking is my goal in life really only to make money? Or is my goal to make money by sharing what I love with people who love what I love? So I started a blog, bought a new camera, launched twitter and pinterest and am now assembling my goals, plans and future plans. So far I am a month ahead of my goals and am setting more. Thanks for being one of the great’s who keep me inspired. Looking forward to your typepad to help me launch my new site!

    Congrats Elise! That’s so exciting!
I just graduated college in May with a graphic design degree and a business minor and you have been the BIGGEST inspiration to me, even before I graduated. Your savvy business sense and willingness to take RISKS and do what you LOVE is inspirational and amazing. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, trials, and successes.

Great job, Elsie! It’s great that you are setting business goals for yourself and keeping yourself accoutable. It’s always so funny to look back at how lost we were at times and how we pull through. I recently “rediscovered” my old college blog & I felt the same way. I wish I could tell my old self that everything was going to be OK! It always is.
    You can do it!

Nice work! you are totally a fantastic business person. I am glad your hard work is paying off. And for the record, I still think you should do a book. You are the best mini book maker out there. I love your non foo foo style, etc.

Technically by offering your Minibook class as a PDF that’s kinda like offering it as an e-book… So… you sorta reached that goal even if you did scratch it 🙂
    Congrats!!

Congrats to you Elise. That’s great that you’ve accomplished so many goals in such a short time. I’m sure you’re going to do a lot more too. I can’t wait to see what you come up with.
