CRAFTY1

DUDES! I had promised a new living room post this week. But FAIL, I didn't get it together. Look for that MONDAY. What I do have though is a video. It's sort of an introduction to the summer mini books and then talks about how I made the first four pages of my book. Like I make them in real time on the video. It's of course long because things like time seem to get away from me when I record, but it might be helpful to see my "process." If you want to skip the intro where I give suggestions for getting started and just see me working on my own book, start the video at the 4m50s mark. I am hoping to share more videos like this throughout the summer as I work on this project. I hope you enjoy.

If my crazy arm waving got you excited about buying a summer book – RAD. Pick one up here.

And I use a few tools during the video. Here are links to those :

disclaimer : I am an amazon affiliate. Products purchased through the above links give me a small commission. I only recommend products I love and think you would enjoy, so this is usually a win-win for everyone.

last thing : This new post series is for my dad who thinks I really need to do more crafting how-to videos. Love you, Dadio.

Haha, I was watching this with my 11 month old on my lap, and she was waving to you the whole time. He he he. I told her if Elise could wave back, she would!
Anyway, I love your summer book, and I also love the Crop a Dile. One time I needed a new hole in a belt, and I used my Crop a Dile to make a new hole. (I have the big orange one. I think we talked about it when you were at my house). I love that thing – many uses! 🙂

I bought a mini book earlier in the year to scrapbook my trip to Hawaii to see my boyfriend who is stationed there for the Navy. (I live in Indiana. Not as cool.) I’ve been putting it off because the pics make me miss him, but this video makes me want to whip out the book and put in the pics and the stories and the fabulous memories. It also gives me some great new ideas. Thanks for posting it!
Also, love the Crop-A-Dile demo. “Like butter!” I laughed out loud…at Starbucks. People may have looked at me funny. No biggie 🙂

Thanks for this! It makes it look way less intimidating to a newbie. And convinced me to get started on using all the paper I keep buying and putting in my “fancy paper box”. Hooray!

This was great! I loved seeing your book in motion (as well as your process). I might have to adopt “slap that in there” as a craft motto…

That’s really what my mini books have been all about in the past (i’m working on the art of everyday journaling) and I’d love to see your style. thanks man!

I LOVE the videos! Keep them coming!!! I love that you have a “just do it” kind of attitude, but you showed how you could practice your journaling without messing up the original. I have the same kind of thing going on with my minibooks…I hate my handwriting so I always practice it, but the rest of it just is what it is.

Thanks for the inspiration: I just found out that a close friend has stage IV breast cancer. I am making an “Art Journal” for her to play in with her kids – she has two ages 4 & 7. My heart aches, but art is so healing.

I love the video! Thanks for sharing your process– it’s like an itty-bitty session of the Mini Workshop!
I have a question about the cover though– did you stamp that yourself with the Stayz-On ink, or did you order it? I love the white on card-stock effect, and I’d love to use it for my wedding invites!!

Love that you’re doing videos to show how you fill up your book. I just ordered one and plan on documenting my summer June-August, which will include the birth of my second daughter in late July. Can’t wait to get it and start stuffing stuff in it! Thanks!

Love the videos and I am slowly pulling my book together. I am getting ready to add photos to the back of some of the pages and I was wondering what size you used for the book ring holes. No Crop-a-dile for me yet, I have a standard 1/4″ punch but I was considering getting a smaller one. I know the Crop-a-dile does 3/16, would the 1/4″ be too big of a punch?
Thanks for all of the videos and blog posts! They have really made it a fun and inspiring way to get the book done.

hi Ashley – Yes, the holes are 3/16 so a standard hole punch is a bit bigger. hope that helps! elise

    Hi Elise,
I just found this old post of yours. I started following your blog when looking to see if Project Life was for me. I love it, but it might require too much time. I think these mini books are a great way to keep memories without that much work! I am starting one now! 🙂
