I'm rolling with the green. There are some things that we can do in this apartment (like build a new coffee table) and somethings that we can't (like build a new dining table). I've got a plan for what I would like our new one to look like, but with the small space we have, it's impractical for now. So instead I am throwing a table cloth over our current one and repainting and recovering our dining chairs to bring a bit more life into them. The plan is to eventually sell the old table and save the redone chairs.

To show you the progression, I took a photo of three of our chairs in all of their states. The far left is what we had in Maryland. The recovered blue is what we have had for the last year or so. And the right is the redo.

Much like the wall painting, this is turning into a much larger project than anticipated. Step one is to remove the cushioned seat. Step two is to sand the wood as much as possible. Step three is two coats of primer. Step four is THREE coats of paint. Step five is recover and reattach the cushion.

And you might notice… only one chair is shown. Yes, I have three more to do. But at the moment, time is free and new chairs are not. So on we go. And the best news is : I love them.

I love the green – so cheery 🙂 Sanding is such a pain in the butt. Do you have one of those electric sanders? I used one when I resurfaced side tables. Granted, my sanding job was somewhat easier in that I had a mostly flat surface. The legs of the tables were harder, just like your chair spindles. But, it might be worth getting one if you don’t have one for future projects. I also used the sanding bit on the Dremel to get into small spaces.

    Love these!!! What a facelift!
Ohhhh Behr paint. They have the greatest colors, its affordable and easy to get from Home Depot BUT I’ve never gotten to use LESS than 3 coats with it. Thin Thin Thin! 😦
Benji Moore would never take 3 coats.

What a difference a dose of color makes! It looks very posh next to your striped wall.

OOOOOO I love that combo! Especially the fabric. I saw a chair cover redo on a blog a few months ago and really wanted to give our boring stock chairs a quick update but never got around to it. This totally inspired me. And although I love the paint, I think my husband would flip a lid if I tried to paint them. So cushion covers will have to do. Good luck finishing them!

Love, love the green. Recovering chairs is always one of my favorite projects. They always create such an impact! Thank you for sharing the paint color. I have been seeing these outdoor chair kits (Home Depot) and this color would be perfect for my backyard!

They look nice indeed, but lot of work and me for example I am a clumsy, I prefer ask someone else to redo my chair or simply go and buy another one, I am the lazy style, I don’t like complicate my life, although I think it’s funny and entertaining doing this yourself.

I’ve been wanting to do something very similar with our dining room chairs. Can’t wait to get started now!
Do you have any advice for getting a nice (non-drippy and non-streaky) look when painting furniture?

Sadly no. My first chair turned out great, but I got sloppy and drippy on the other three. Be patient and that will help.

Very nice, I also like the green color. So people stick to the standard black, white and such. It is good to see different colors from the norm.
