Tablenumbers
376

Long, long ago, I mentioned a plan for our wedding table numbers.

I ended up scratching the design, but keeping the idea. Our new table numbers were folded gray cardstock that were stamped in orange ink with Martha Stewart foam number stamps. Guests at each table were encouraged to sign them knowing they would be opened on that anniversary year. (So we'd open table 10 on our 10th, etc.)

My parents mailed table number one's card (blurred for privacy) down and we opened it on Sunday before we went out to dinner. I actually cried reading what our sweet friends had written. I did not anticipate loving this idea so much, but it's crazy how something so simple can send you right back to the moment. I'll be tucking them into our guestbook (shown top right) for safe keeping.

I had anticipated sharing more thoughts about this first year of marriage but whenever it comes to actually typing up a full post – I've got nothing. Paul and I lived together for three years before we were married, so we were pretty well versed in "how to make a serious relationship work" before the "I do's" were said. One thing that we have changed this year though is just making more time for the fun stuff. We get outside more. We celebrate more happy hours. We talk to each other more. Paul's work schedule has gotten so much crazier, but mine has become flexible and the balance has worked out well. I can say for sure that this past year was our best yet. I am so grateful we were able to spend our first year of married life in such a sunny city that is so much closer to our family and friends.

top three photos by the goodness. And yes, we have orange roses at the moment – keeping the tradition alive since 2010.

On the two week anniversary of my boyfriend deciding that “this relationship wasn’t what he wanted anymore” this post fills me with hope. I am sure that this will have happened to me for a reason and one day I will get to write sweet post like this on my blog.
Congratulations on your happy ever after 🙂

I love this idea of the table numbers – I am going to pass it on to my friends when they get married. The other day I found our wedding album, and I read the notes people wrote in the guest pages. It is sweet to look back and remember all the people we have as supporters. Congrats on one year!

I have a long time to go before my girls are of the “marriage” age, but this table number idea is a keeper. I am a bit weepy just thinking about the joy they will bring to you YEARS and YEARS and YEARS from now. Best wishes for many more years of wonderful traditions.

i am wowed again by your flowers. they are so beautiful, and that second image… stunning beauty. My late grandma’s favorite color was orange (like EVERYTHING in her house was orange) and these remind me of something she would have in her home when we came to visit. …oh, the memories that beauty can ignite.

I love that table number idea! We didn’t have a guest book we had a “write us a little note” wishing jar and so many people didn’t sign it because they were late or only came for the reception or whatever. Having that on the table would have been such a good idea. I’m going to just have to get married again!

Happy Anniversary! What an awesome idea with the table numbers!
Is the last pic one of you two recently? We take a pic every year on our anniversary now, either at our apartment or wherever we happen to be (Year 3 was in front of the White House). I’m planning on updating our album every year with each picture and a copy of the business card for the restaurant we ate at.
Tell Paul that you two have the same anniversary as Maya and Steve! He’ll know what that means.

A belated congratulations on your one year anniversary! I’ve read through your wedding posts and it just looks like the most wonderful day was had! I love the orange and gray colour combo. So unique – I would never have thought of it – but it works so incredibly well. The table numbers idea is simply ingenious too.

    Hi Elise,
I don’t know if you still read comments on old posts, but I love this idea. I’m just curious — how did your guests know to write notes inside the cards? Did you just tell them verbally?
    Thanks!
