Calimove

And about three hours north we go!

Last year, at this time, we found out we would be moving from Maryland to San Diego. And today Paul got a call that his first choice for his GMO tour is available.

And so : next we will be living in Ventura, California.

A bit of background : Paul is a doctor for the US Navy. He went to med school in Maryland and then we came out to San Diego for his internship. He is hoping to do a residency in Radiology but will be completing a two year stint as a General Medical Officer first. The unit he will be with is part of the Seabees who are stationed at Port Hueneme near Ventura.

He also found out today that the unit he will be with preparing to deploy soon. Paul will complete a bit of stateside training as soon as his internship is over in July then will join them overseas to complete the rest of their deployment out of a Navy base in Japan. We were hoping he would deploy as soon as possible so we could be back together & enjoy the more predictable schedule that comes with a GMO station. It looks right now that he will be back around October or November.

As of now, we are planning to keep our current apartment in San Diego until he is back home. It makes the most sense seeing as we won't have any time to apartment search together or move our stuff before he leaves. Plus, I love being super close to the airport – I plan on doing a lot of traveling myself while he is gone. And of course I'll be blogging and business growing …

Bottom line : He's excited! I'm excited! We're moving someplace new! We get to stay in California! (Have you seen the Ventura website?!) Paul will be home for next Christmas!

All is good.

Ah, Port Hueneme – my parents are from Camarillo, which is right near there. At least one of them worked at the base back in the 70s.
I’ve been there a few times – really nice! 🙂

Ventura is lovely. And there is a great outlet not too far from there if I remember correctly. Although my husband isn’t in the military he travels quite a bit as well and when he hits the road…so do I. It’s a great arrangement…best of luck to you both!

I grew up in Ventura County (Simi Valley) and spent much of my childhood at the beaches. It’s actually a VERY cute town. Old buildings with new establishments. 45 minutes from Santa Barbara. Huge pier with places to sit and take in the ocean views. Only an hour from LA. 2 hours from SLO. What an amazing to gift to be able to experience different locations every few years!
Best of luck to you both!

Will be wine-tasting in Ojai for my 30th birthday with my family and visiting my friend who works at a farm in Ventura and having a pick-your-dinner dinner! I live in Ventura! There’s a cool little art scene, they have an event each month called First Friday where they open all the studios downtown and the retailers also feature local artists work…there’s also a brand new live/work artist loft project downtown too. You’ll love it, happy to share the beta with you 🙂

just commenting … several days late. so excited to hear you will be going to ventura. great little city! my family and i just moved to north carolina from thousand oaks. let me share a couple of my favorite places with you: great, great scrapbook store in westlake village called “treasured memories” — one of the few sb stores still in existence!; i’m sure you know of zinnia in south pasadena — ahhh i miss that store so much!; great french cafe owned by some very nice frenchies called chocolatine in thousand oaks, as well as amazing french food also in t.o. called cafe provencal; and if you need a great haircut, go to tangerenz (pronounced “tangerines”) studio in ventura and tell gavin (cutie-pie owner) that mia said hello! have fun there! it’s a great place.
