I got our Bora Bora memory up on the wall.

I bought a square frame (with an 11.5×11.5 mat opening) at Ikea yesterday and decided instead of being patient and waiting for a large print, I would just piece together the photograph myself. I scanned the Polaroid in at a high resolution, divided it up into four 7×7 squares and one 7×7 square for the center and printed it at home on white cardstock. Then I played around with it until the collage effect looked like photo but just a bit off.

And then, as I was putting it all together (and remarking to Paul on the greatness of my Ikea frame and what a deal it was), I broke the glass.

So for now, we have a Bora Bora photo. In a very pretty frame. And eventually it is going to get all dusty and need to be redone. And then I'll just order a big 12×12 print. Or maybe by then I'll go larger.

    ahhh…i’ve done that with those ikea frames…it looks great though…more interesting that a large print, i think 🙂

    If you want to replace the glass visit your local hardware store. They should be able to cut a piece of glass to size for you for cheap. It’d be a shame to let something so pretty go unprotected. 🙂

    I was going to tell you about the hardware store, but I got beat to it. =) But I’m pretty sure Home Depot will cut you a new piece of glass for less than $10.

    I think the no glass look is just in keeping with the slightly grainy, raw look you were going for.
    Found your blog recently when looking for tips for putting photos into sidebar. Love your work so much I am now chopping up lots of paper to hand out to all my nieces with some ideas for mini-books. Still haven’t figured out the sidebar photos – need to go back through your instructions.
