Originally, I planned to make a digital album for our honeymoon photos. It was going to be in the same format as our engagement and wedding albums and fit into a Russell+Hazel mini binder. I scrapped (no pun intended) this idea for a bunch of reasons :

  1. the photos from our honeymoon were taken with my little point and shoot at a much smaller resolution than our professional photos. They were not going to blow up and print as well in large format.
  2. I attempted the digital album twice and both times was very un-inspired.
  3. there was not as much story to tell with text – it was our honeymoon. It was amazing. But that's sort of it.
  4. Bora Bora was tropical and vivid and deserved a bit more of a mess than the clean lines of our previous albums.

And so, I decided to go with a thick, tactile book but I was still stumped on what size and style to go with.

Then a few weeks ago when girlfriends from college were in town, I pulled out my minibook from our spring break senior year. It had been years since I'd look through it and I loved the textures, the transparencies and the simple color scheme.

So basically, I copied myself from a few years ago to make this album. It came together in about seven hours over two days. Below are the photos of most of the page spreads. At the end of this post is a complete supply list.

Your kiddos are going to have so much fun looking through all your mini books one day! What a gift you are giving to your children to be able to look back at their Mom and Dad’s love story. Very cool.

It’s virtually impossible for me to get such vivid colors with my point and shoot. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong…

This is fantastic! I love how many photos you have both of you together.
I also started working on a digital book for my honeymoon photos, but ended up really not loving it, stopped halfway through and haven’t touched the photos since. I think I’m going to take the same approach you did here — thanks for the inspiration!

For the photos, did you mount the mount them on top of one another? FABULOUS album. This seems like something I could actually finish instead of just get started.

the colors of bora bora helped a lot. 🙂
what kind of camera do you have?
    somethings I do :
try to shoot at 200 ISO only.
400 if I “need” a shot in darker lighting.
try to shoot in the shade of bright, sunny days.

elise this may be part of your coming workshop, but how did you decide the order you put them in? Design? Random, or chronological?
I always struggle with travel projects and would like to do something besides chronological order.
