enJOY it

an archived personal and craft blog from Elise Blaha Cripe.

Photo One reason I'm excited to get married is that fiancé is the lamest word to say and type.

I look at all actors on television and movies to see if they are right or left handed.

I do this because I wish I was left handed.

It's possible (though less than 25%) that our child might be left handed.

Paul thinks my genetics logic is off.

Nearly every piece of clothing I've bought from Anthropologie has gotten a hole in it. (the one exception: this dress)

This is why I tend to steer towards the homewares section.

I keep a written calendar (printed out iCal), a digital calendar (iCal) and a digital to do list (TeuxDeux).

But I no longer have a paper planner and it's the best feeling in the world.

I love Excel spreadsheets an inappropriate amount.

I also love assembly lines and monotonous tasks.

Facebook was so much better in college.

I'm so excited to have children.

That's not a secret.

I hope we never have to move out of California again.

That's not a secret either.

It's also nearly impossible.

Paul being in med school made me a hypochondriac.

I love my hand writing.

I can't bring myself to buy a digital SLR and I think it's because I don't want to carry it around with me.

My parents are my best friends.

I'll stop looking at wedding blogs on April 23rd.

At least for a little while.

I spend more time not busy than I spend busy.

I would really like to change that.

I’ve been wanting a digital SLR too, and I keep telling myself that I’m not getting it because it’s too expensive, but I think really it’s because I don’t want to carry the thing around either!!

Love your list. Funny comments re: left hand wishes. I am the same, and wished for my four kids – even provided them with a left-handed father! No luck. Wish yours is better 🙂 Have a wonderful week!

I like the list. I have a DSLR and love it – but I partly chose the model I have (Canon D1000) because it was the lightest one on the market at the time. I don’t really notice it in my bag, so for me it’s totally worth it!

fiance IS such a super lame word. I hate saying it.
you should look at the canon s90 — it’s a point and shoot, but it has a lot of manual settings. it’s probably the closest you’ll get to a DSLR in a tiny package! I’ve had one for a few months now and I absolutely love it.

    Hey Elise.
I have wanted to be left handed my whole life. I thought I was the only one who had this weird idea. My husband is a lefty and I hope that our kids are.
About cameras, I too resisted getting rid of my film SLR. However, that being said, I love my digital SLR, and by love, I mean LOVE. I have a Nikon D60 and I love it. I have had fantastic luck with every Nikon I have ever shot. I do wedding photography and portraits, so I use it quite a bit. Come on over to the dark side. You will like it.

    Great list.
I’ve always wanted to be left handed, too. I’ve heard a lot of people probably were but we were taught/told to use our right hand.
I don’t know about the word fiance, right now I’d totally take girlfriend. Eh.
I just bought a DSLR and now I’m looking for a camera bag because I want to carry it around but I have so much other stuff already I want it to be a purse, too.

Haha always check to see if people are left handed too! But, I am left handed.. haha. It’s not all it’s cracked up to be though! It’s so hard to write in binders and I get ink smeared all along my hand… plus I am terrible at using scissors! Haha.

I, too, have been dreaming of the possibilities that an SLR would bring… but then I remember that the majority of my pictures happen because my camera is perfectly pocket-sized and always ready when I just NEED to take a great picture.

    Fiancé = lame. I agree.
DSLR — want. But, agree. Too big/bulky, therefore unlikely to cart around with me. My point-and-shoot is a total staple in my life, or at least it had been before I stayed home so much. Because it was so small I could whip it out while I was teaching and take pictures as the kids did labs/projects/presentations. Would never have happened with the DSLR.

totally agree with you about “fiance”. half the time i say husband or boyfriend because it’s easier. but then someone told me you only get to say “fiance” for a little bit of time over your whole life, so you should use it for all it’s worth… which i suppose is a good argument.
also, i envy your “not busy” time.

Just stumbled here from someone’s tumbler and love your wedding dress and the color orange (I got married in 1994 so it was “peach” back then…)
    Compelled to comment because:
    1. no one in mine or my husband’s family is a leftie, but TWO of 3 sons are.
    2. Buying the DSLR was best thing I ever bought. Worth lugging. Do it now!
    3. Enjoy the little time left with the lame word fiance. I remember teasing my husband on his over-using the word when we were engaged, and he said it’s a word you only use for a short period once in your life and he wanted to get full use out of it:-)

I wish I could figure out Excel! It is impeding my job search and drives me crazy besides because I know it would make so many tasks that much easier. I suppose it is time to take a class. You seem as “Type A” (for lack of a better way to put it) as me, so I imagine once I learn it I will be in love with it as you are. 🙂
    (Love, love, love your blog!)

3 out of my 5 kids are left handed my 3 youngest girls… my husband thinks I “trained” them to be this way… NOT — but I think it’s cool. We could be a case study of some sort I believe. I mean REALLY the odds are pretty big to have ONE let along 3!!! 🙂 Anyways, just a tidbit…

p.s. i so do that too about the left handed thing. and guess what?! we are both right handed but we think our almost 2 year old is TOTALLY left handed. we give him a spoon in his right hand and he always switches. it’s happy crazy. hopefully i’ll know how to raise a leftie right. if you know what i mean.
