25todo

Another year, another list. I find it interesting how my list making criteria changes every year. When I turned 23 and made the first list, I didn’t put too much thought into it. I just came up with 23 things that I thought would better my life. When I turned 24, I knew that getting everything done was difficult so I went with what I thought were easier challenges. (As it turns out, some were not – I’ll show what I crossed off next week.)

This year, I picked things that were not necessarily easy but most are possible to accomplish in one day. No long events or repetitive events. I have a big list of hard tasks (find a church), easy tasks (have a picnic), expensive tasks (buy bikes) & inexpensive tasks (play with chalk). So many of the 25 goals are things I want to do in our new town. I will be living in San Diego for nine months of this birthday year and that opens up many new opportunities.

I have decided to document the progress on this list in a digital scrapbook.

I am going digital for a few reasons. First, it’s different than last year and right now, changing things up sounds inspiring. Second, my 24 book is lacking in stories. It has plenty of ephemera, but no real words to help remember what I did and why. Third, I can type up the journaling in Microsoft Word (or on this blog) as I go. When I have the chance, I can copy and paste into Photoshop and add photos & design. I think this will make it easier to stay active in the documentation process. (Basically, I don’t want to do a year’s worth of catch up at the end.)

I will be making 8.5×11 (or maybe 12×12? The square format sounds fun) pages in PSE, printing the completed pages and keeping together in an album. I will try to share progress as I go. (Hopefully much better than I did with the 24 list.)

So here we go. To a new year. To a new list. To 25 exciting tasks.

PS : Here is a look at the only other digital scrapbook I have made.

I’m loving my 34 to-dos this year Elise. . . and I’ll admit, keeping up the little book is tricky, but I’m liking the variety of the pages I pre-built and am just sticking with adding snippets of what happened to those and adding a few 4×6 photos of the to-do. I’m looking forward to seeing how your digital scheme works out. Fun to change things up!

You’ve inspired me to do a “46” to do’s mini. My one little word this year is Transform, so I plan to put many of my dreams of transformation on the list. If I get far enough into it, I may send you a link!

i’ve had a hard time updating my ’25 things to-do while 25′.. so i figured i’d keep it simple by already making a layout for it & then just adding pictures to it with a little bit of writing.. so it’d be easier for me to follow through. your list looks very realistic to accomplish.. good luck & happy belated bday

awesome list, Elise! I especially like how you picked more manageable things (but still mixed in more difficult/expensive ones). Sounds like it’ll be a great year. And I loved learning about the digital scrapbooking you did for the engagement album, so I’m interested to see how you put this year’s book together.

Great list. I love digital. I live in a very small space with my whole family. Going digital means that the stories get told. If I had to make a mess each time I wanted to work – it would never happen. I miss the paper, but I prefer the story. Good luck.

You could use Backpack for a digital scrapbook. It is really easy to make web pages and even email stuff to them. I use it to plan trips, wish lists, and even organize my taxes. It’s great and there is a free version.
Plus I would love for you to visit my church. They would love your super craftiness even if it is just for a few weeks.

Another year, one quarter century. . . . I met a lady at an antique shop on m quarter century.
I enjoy your books. I tried to keep up with your page a week from a while back, so far back as 2008. I made it only a few weeks, yours are much more fun to look at but if you would like to see a few links to sewing I too am starting to sew here in PDX. A lovely city by the way!

Hi Elise – Big fan of your blog. Found it via the awesome Kal Barteski. Love that you are a LIST person. I am too (although my birthday wish list wasn’t nearly as long). There are a few very inspiring items on your list including “Surf”. Unfortunately, there’s not great surfing on the prairies but my family has a home in the Algarve, Portugal (best surfing in all of Europe) so I too have dreams of surfing. Congrats on your 25th birthday (oh to be 25 again….) and all the best in pursuing this year’s list!

I found your blog right before you got married, starting with the post with all those orange roses in the fridge and you got me hooked: hook, line and sinker! You are now on my blog list! Some things we have in common: I live in Maryland. I have several friends whose husbands got to the same school your husband went to (two just graduated and moved away- on to Texas to become an ER doctor, another to California to become a Radiologist.) #3. Find a Church. http://www.mormon.org. Let me know what you think at joshmeganabbott (at) hotmail (dot) com. Even if it’s just- not right now, but thanks anyway! There’s a temple (google San Diego temple) and lots of chapels in your area!
