enJOY it

an archived personal and craft blog from Elise Blaha Cripe.

On Friday before we left Sacramento, Paul and I met with our photographers to shoot an engagement photo session. I have never really thought about taking engagement photos. BUT back in January, it seemed like tons of amazing engagement sessions started hitting the web. Artsy, romantic, funny, candid, stunning photos. Not the lame chin resting on a tree branch stuff. Also not the old "hold the camera at arms length and do your best to not look blurry/drunk/stink-eyed". I figured it was something that would be fun. Not a must do, but fun.

When I google searched and found our photographer, one of the items included in her packages was an engagement shoot. For sure we were going to do it now. Back in May, I scheduled July 31 for us to meet up at our favorite restaurant in Sacramento. We figured we would just play it by ear from there.

Paul and I met up with Lisa and Geoff (they’re photographer partners & engaged to be married on August 22!) and had a few cocktails before getting started with the session. I personally thank the cocktails for a little less awkward and a little more willing subjects.

I really had no idea what to expect. That’s a lie. I expected extreme awkwardness. But instead, I got a laid back experience and an overwhelming sense of love for Paul. After spending three hours close to him, talking softly to him, kissing him, hugging him and holding his hand I realized, WOW. I AM CRAZY ABOUT THIS MAN. Don’t get me wrong, I already knew that, but your deepest emotion gets a bit hidden in the non-romantic activities of the day to day. Your passion hides out just a little bit. It was so fun to bring that back. And Lisa and Geoff were just perfect at capturing us being us. I was blown away and cannot wait to see the photos.

Thanks Lisa & Geoff. And thank you, Paul for walking into this with me and standing by my side.

Lovely words. I needed this post this morning. We are at the two month mark and realizing how much we have yet to do, and it’s all so overwhelming. It’s nice to remember why we are doing all this in the first place. Thanks. Can’t wait to see the pics.

Elise you are so awesome! We had an amazing time with you too! This is such a wonderful post. Seriously made me get choked up (I’m such a a softie sometimes). I’ve never thought of the engagement session of a way to bring the couple closer to one another, but you are so right! We should have a teaser up soon for you, and I’ll tell ya, the photos are looking rad! I cannot wait to share them with you and Paul!

Glad you to hear you & P found just the right fit with your photographers. I clicked the link you posted & went to their blog and who do I spy?? You & Paul! What a gorgeous photograph. If just ONE is that wonderful, I bet they’re ALL wonderful! Wish I lived in the area so I could hire them for my photography needs. πŸ™‚
