We're back. What a weekend. The wedding was classy and fun and excellent. Going to a wedding while in engaged is a pretty exciting time. There is a lot of "Oh, wow. This is going to be us." And a few overcome-with-emotion tears at all the important moments.

We danced and danced. Paul was in quite a dancing mood, which surprised us both. As he spun me around the dance floor, I must of told him six times, "I can't wait to marry you." And it was more than just the signature martinis talking. He's the best.

My parents have many close friends in Minnesota and Colleen is one of them. Because I want to do my own wedding flowers, my Mom arranged a meeting with her early Saturday morning to "just get some ideas." I told Colleen orange, only one color and that I wanted something simple. We walked into her house to a beautiful spread of flowers.

I was overwhelmed in the very best way. Colleen had paired orange roses with a few (silk) California poppies to make understated centerpieces and a beautiful bouquet. For greens, she used the same plant leaves that we have growing in my backyard in Sacramento. The week of the wedding, I am going to order oodles of roses, pick some leaves and wrap it all up in wire and ribbon. (Don't worry, I'll practice.) Our centerpieces will be mixes of roses in wine glasses and roses in other vessels. Simple, simple.

As soon as I saw how lovely it all looked, we called Paul and my dad to come see. Paul was impressed with the California poppies and decided that the orange the occurs naturally in nature is just the right orange. Which works. No circus colors for me.

This trip was so good. It was nice to see a wedding in action and realize that my real excitement is not over the big event but over the much bigger relationship that will follow it for 70 years.

+ PS. I, of course, highly recommend Colleen's Flower Cellar. She is rational, experienced, talented and beyond friendly. I really cannot say enough good things.

Please consider somehow having a webcam at your wedding so we can all watch! lol. It could be a the newest thing for weddings? “who’s your videographer? Oh he’s fab! Who’s your webcam-ographer?”

That wedding cake is nuts, like something off of the Ace of Cakes. It looks kind of Mad Hatter’s Tea Party!
Orange rocks. Poppies are amazing. Hooray for you! 🙂

Our flowers were one of the most expensive parts of our celebration, but my parents paid for them, and they were just what I wanted, so worth it! I actually found my bouquet in a scrapbook layout in Simple Scrapbooks and my mom had the florist re-create it. LOVE those poppies, they look perfect!

I’ve been following your blog for a little while and I love all the ideas you have.
I did my own roses and ordered them through this website: http://www.rosesource.com They arrived right when they said they would, and they truly perfect. I highly recommend them.
    Congrats on the engagement!!

I had deep red and orange flowers (gerbera daisies are my favorites!). My aunt did the flowers for my wedding – and they were really memorable. I LOVED the flowers. The cake – um, not so much. Mine was made by a small-town bakery and it was yummy for sure, but so NOT the beautiful thing I’d imagined. And I’d had too much champagne and the frosting was so sweet it made me nauseous. Oops!
So, I’m biased already – but I love the flowers! I should post a photo of my bouquet somewhere…

    Elise-
I have been watching your blog for the past about month. Congrats on getting engaged! Were you at a wedding in Minnesota? I used Colleen’s Flower Cellar for my wedding last May. She was awesome, and my flowers were amazing and really reasonably priced. I can’t wait to see pictures of your wedding. I keep hearing updates from your Mom through the letters she sends my mom.

Sara just told me about your blog, so I looked at it. You are an amazing girl…and I knew you back in the day! As Sara said, I also had Colleen do the flowers at MY wedding almost 2 1/2 years ago now. Beautiful flowers, wonderful person to work with. I am so excited to read more about your wedding and everything you are doing.
