Flowers
Photo by Zoom Photography via Style Me Pretty.

I am feeling a bit ahead of the game here on the wedding planning front. I am just a little bit impatient by nature and I love to arrange and rearrange and make lists and cross out. This whole part is FUN for me. It is crazy that at the end of all this, I get to be married to Paul and the real excitement will begin. I love that all this build up and anticipation is working towards something that will last forever. Pretty cool.

I contacted Lauri of Zoom Photography after seeing the lovely Napa wedding she shot on Style Me Pretty yesterday. She is available on our date and happy to come to Sacramento. I just need to figure out if I have the budget for someone as fabulous as her. Ultimately, photos are up at the top of Most Important Things to me. So, fingers crossed.

We found out that Paul’s med school graduation is May 15, 2010. This was one of the big dates that we were waiting for and now everything (honeymoon + time to look for a home) is starting to fall into place. I get such a weird satisfaction from typing things into iCal. It makes me anxious to buy a 2010 planner.

I love the look of the flowers in the pink glass above. I think we have some glasses very similar at my parent’s house. I am hoping to combine glasses and vases (mostly that we already own between our two families) filled with flowers for the tables at the reception. Ooh la la…

Pictures are important to me, too. I think it’s fun to see how people have all different priorities, but photos are ESSENTIAL.
Looking for a home? HOW EXCITING! I don’t know much about either DC or CA, but I’m sure where you guys end up will be very fun, stylish.
I just love reading your planning posts, keep em up!

LOL, we had some crAzy plans, we even had a meeting at a castle 1,5 years before we got engaged because we fell in love with the place and thought that would be it if some time in the future we would get married. Unfortunately the weddingroom was only to be reached with stairs and they would only give us the option of a standing reception. Not my thing and defintely not grandparent-friendly. Too bad because we had made inquiries on renting a subwaytrain to bring our guests there! (dh is a public transpot enthusiast).
Over a year after that we were on a rivertrip on a big boat on the river Rhine (that we have a ‘thing’ with) and made a stop in a cute villiage. When we rounded a corner we stood face to face with an even cooler castle, half in ruins, that had a gazebo. We ended up hiring a boat to bring our guests from another villiage to this one, where ‘medieval musicians’ were waiting for us, we walked to the castle following the music, got married in the gazebo, had the reception there (with the medieval musicians playing and a buffet with sandwiches and lots of fruitjuices and fruit), had our photoshoot around the castle while the guests got to do a walking tour trough the villiage with guides from the local tourist office, drove back to the cars in the other villiage in a bus and had dinner @ a pancake restaurant with parents, siblings and best friends (grandparents couldn’t cope with the full program but got to be there for part of the day and my grandfather was one of my withnesses). And the coolest thing is we kept it all a secret from our guests, up front they only got meeting time and place and ending time, not even our parents knew, only the friend and uncle that were the photographers and bridesmaid and best man knew…
Another thing that took a lot of preparation was my dress. I didn’t want to spend a whole lot on it and all the readymade dresses in all the magazines left the shoulders bare! Not my style, I get cold easily. I wanted a mix of gothic and classic, it took months to find a pattern and find the right fabric, I finally found the right colour purple fabric 8 days before the wedding, my mum made the dress!
Planning, making arrangements, making invitations and little gifts for the guests were almost a full time job for the 10 months of our engagements but it all came together fantasticly on our weddingday, I hope yours will be just as fab!
