enJOY it

an archived personal and craft blog from Elise Blaha Cripe.

In my internet wandering this morning, I found this post with a quote from Erin that said, ""Feb 15th is the #1 day that most people are broken up with."

Interesting. I was actually broken up with ON Valentine's Day.

February 14, 2001. In the high school parking lot. While I was holding about seven mylar balloons (from him) that proclaimed "I love you!" and "Happy Valentine's Day!", I got the "Elise, I can't do this anymore!" speech. It really was not much of a shock, as our relationship had become awkward and filled with silence (like many a high school romance) and truth be told, I couldn't do this anymore.

But it did take the wind out of my sales until eight days later, on my 16th birthday, I failed my driver's test.

And that, my friends, was ten times worse than a Valentine's Day break up.

Oh no! Failing your drivers license test! That must have been hard.
I too was broken up with on Valentines Day. 6th grade, right before the dance. It was horrible. I ended up dating the same guy again in high school, for several years, actually. But I never really forgot how awful I felt that night. Looking back, the most awful part of the night was probably the dress I wore! Ahhh, the nineties.

Ah, you are bringing back memories of when I was in high school in 2001.
Do you think he just didn’t want to buy you a birthday present too? My sister (who is about to graduate High School) got broken up with because of Christmas presnets. Classic high school boys style.

although i was never broken up with on valentines day, i was broken up with on the same day that i got laid off.
and (in a different year) i had also failed my driving test. you know – the super easy one that just requires that you read the book.
guess i should’ve read the book.

I failed my drivers test as well. All my friends were waiting for me to come pick them up at school and take them to lunch to celebrate. Instead I got dropped off by my dad in front of the school where they were waiting. It was all I could do to go back to school. I just wanted to go home and cry.
You gotta love guys who tell you they love and break up with you the next day.

My cousin told me he would break up about a week before Vday and then get back together afterwards… cheap bastard

you made me laugh today. because that which is so devastating at the time is so insignificant later. however, failing your driver test would be catastrophic at the time. my daughter got her license yesterday and for fear of failing did not tell a soul ahead of time.

I got the “I love you, but I’m not love w/ you anymore” speech on New Years Eve 1987. Boy, did I start out 1988 a royal mess. And I lived with him even though I was only 18 and a senior in High School. He truly broke my heart. And he’s married to his 5th wife and I’ve been married to the same guy since 1992. Karma??? Thank you for letting me share your pain. Diggin’ your tags BTW!
