Obama1
Obama2

I am voting today for the man with the plan. The man who had the foresight to "measure the drapes in the oval office."

Both men have a vision and my vision aligns with Barack Obama.

I would like a time line to get out of Iraq. I would like a thoughtful president who sees war as a last resort and is willing to talk with other world powers – even if they do not agree with America.

I would like money to be poured into education. I would like every student to be granted money for college in exchange for public service. I would like teachers to make more money and programs like Teach for America to be given more support.

I would like a country of equality. Where qualified women make the same salary as qualified men. I would like marriage to be something so EQUAL it never is discussed again.

I would like to worry less about taxes and more about all the steps we need to get this country running strong and the economy booming again.

I am not ashamed to say I want a president who inspires. Who has his thumb on the pulse of America.

I want a president who is smarter than me. Who went to a better school than me and finished higher in his class than me. I want a president who is never surprised by success.

I am voting today for a man who thinks college football should have a playoff and who knows we will find alternate sources for energy. A man who believes that he can change this country – and that we, the people, can too. I am voting today for a man I believe in.

::: My opinion may not be the same as yours but the good news is – we each get one vote. Make yours heard. :::

Hey Miss Elise. I don’t believe in Obama, but the beauty is that we don’t have to agree. We just have to vote! :] Way to tell everyone to let their voice be heard. :]

Your words ring clear on a day when I, like so many Americans, am beside myself with emotions regarding this campaign. I am so excited about the prospect of being proud of our leader and our country…proud to be an American once again.

I also do not believe in Obama, but I respect you for stating your beliefs and for promoting that regardless of your political stance, the point is to just vote and make your voice heard. I can be friends with someone like you even though we don’t vote the same way.

I however can’t continue to read your blog. We vote different. I support the christian man with good morals who believes in the flag and God.

Wow. I can’t believe anybody would stop appreciating an artist’s work just because they respectfully expressed a different political opinion from yours. The world would be a sad place if we all had to have the same opinions and tastes to get along. And, by the way, who says Barack Obama doesn’t have good morals?
Anyway… Elise, this is my first comment on your blog, though I’ve been reading it ever since I discovered your work in an English magazine this summer. Although I’m french, I lived in Pennsylvania for one year back in 1997, and I deeply love your country. I stayed up all night to know about this election’s results as soon as they were announced. Which means I went to bed around 7 A.M. and am totally knackered now 🙂 Since I work from home, this is no big deal. And anyway, I’m just so happy I wouldn’t have gotten much done. I strongly believe Obama’s presidency will make a better future for the USA and for the whole world.
    Keep up the good work!

    Elise,
I came over to visit today and read your comments and got a similar negative e-mail from one of your commenters. Its too bad someone can be so upset about a difference of opinion that they discount you all together.
However, I appreciate the reasons you gave and also look forward to the change ahead.
