where will you be in the next five years?

IMG_9933 IMG_9934 Yesterday, I bought a fantastic book. Called FIVE. It is not so much a book to read as a book to look at and enjoy. The typesetting alone excites me.

I have been thinking a lot recently about the next five years. And who I want to be then. If five years ago you had asked me who I wanted to be now, I would said something like “Single. In a high powered corporate job. Not living in Maryland.”

But I am pleased with where the last five years have taken me. And the choices that I have made. And I am in love with the idea that we get to pick the future. The next five years. I am excited to become someone new.

    I have just bought this book and agree totally that the look of the book is wonderfully inspiring.
    It jumped off the shelf at me because I have a mere 5 years before I will be turning 50 (eeekk!) and this got me thinking…

    Um, where will I be? Honestly I have no idea. I could be anywhere.
    But I’ll tell you this. I’ll have a husband I adore and beautiful kiddos, and I’ll be striving to be the best mommy, wife, and woman that I can be. That’s about all I can tell you, but it sounds good to me. 😉

    This looks like a great book, if only for the type 🙂 I love type! But, I also love these types of questions. I like opening a new page in my journal and scribbling down some important thoughts on the future.
    I want to know that I’ve made decisions along the way that are true to myself, true to the joy of discovery, true to the relationships I consider important.

    Once a (slightly older and seriously more successful) friend dispensed this advice — I will pass it on: The person you will be in five years depends on the books you read and the people you associate with.”
    The author, Anne Dillard cautions (I’m paraphrasing, of course) “be careful what you read, for that is how you will write.”
    And yes … great typography here, thanks for sharing.

    Oh I like this! I do love type based books I haven’t seen it over here yet but will keep an eye out. By the way just thought I’d say your article in Scrapbook inspirations August 2008 issue 43 is out on the stand now (uk) and I love it was a lovely surprise to see you in the mag (I’m a subscriber so I get it early) anyhoo Seeya hugya G

    to karin, who posted the mitch hedberg quote up there — i love mitch! he’s a genius!
    there’s a similar book out there that i’ve seen (and that also has it’s own website) – “Dear Future Me” (http://www.futureme.org/book.php). it looks pretty great, if only for the fact that you can write yourself an email that will be delivered in X number of years.

    i tried to buy that book on bn.com, but it was taking forever, and i just gave up. sad. i’ll find it someday…..hopefully sooner than 5 years from now. 🙂
