enJOY it

Anyone have any recent experience taking a polaroid camera (and film) on an airplane? I am not planning on checking my bags, so I would have it in my carry on. I googled the question and could not get any current information. The TWA site does not say you CANNOT have polaroid film. But it also does not say you CANNOT ride an elephant down the aisle of the plane. And we all know how that would turn out.

Any information out there?

I know you can’t have any sort of undeveloped film go through the scanner. It will ruin your film.

Hey Elise – I took a polaroid to Seattle earlier this year in a carry on and it was fine. It went through the x-ray machine and everything. Have a great trip!

You can totally request for the bag checkers to manually check certain items. They say that all film over iso800 should be hand-checked. Some bag checkers have given me a hard time about it, but just kill them with kindness. They DO have you open all the packaging. Even so, I’ve done it plenty of times, even after 9/11.

Apparently the carry on x-rays are heaps weaker than the check in baggage x-rays, so I wouldn’t worry. Just ask nicely for a hand check! Also you can buy these lead lined bags or something designed for film.

it’s no problem. just ask that they hand check the film, as my fujifilm was in my bag and ended up turning out funny for a couple frames. they do need to open up the boxes of film though, as mentioned above.
    have fun!

    Hi there!
I can only hope that you still keep up this blog. I also want to take a polaroid camera with me (on an international flight though). Did you end up bringing yours on your trip? And if so, what did you end up doing? There still aren’t very many answers for taking polaroids on airplane trips. ):
