Img_0492 I miss you.  Love, Elise

I realized that I cannot do a post about books without sharing my favorites.  It is like talking about cupcakes without providing photos.  Lame.

So my favorites.  My must read list, if you will.

  • The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger.  First read in June 2005 while living with Jenny in San Diego.
  • The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger.  First read in August 2003, right after I moved into the dorms and was scared to go out because of Rush.
  • Survivor by Chuck Palahniuk. First read in Fall 2002 on a referral from Scott.
  • The Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella.  First read Fall 2001.  This was the beginning of the chick-lit obsession.
  • Into Thin Air by John Krakauer.  First read Fall 1999.
  • 'Tis by Frank McCourt.  First read Fall 1999.  Best book report ever.
  • The Pact by Jodi Picoult.  First read Fall 2006.  Just a drop in the bucket of the love affair that is me and Jodi.
  • Harry Potter by JK Rowling.  First read wow…Freshman year?  2000?  Is that right?  Robbie Blaha will forever be my hero for making me sit down and read about magic.

Ohhh, I know the list goes on and on.

Some of the big chick-lit authors: Jane Green, Emily Giffin, Cecelia Ahern, Merian Keyes…Basically if it is sold at Target and you can judge it as good by its cover, I have read it.  And loved it.

And Blogland, because I am always searching for more books, and because we are all friends here, I must ask: What do you recommend?

You have to read Captivating by John Eldredge- You might have heard about Wild at Heart by him as well, about a man’s masculine journey. But this is all about women and why God created us to be the way we are. He co-wrote it with his wife. It is absolutely fabulous and makes you think about your life in a totally new perspective. I got it when it came out in 2005 and I have reread it many, many times.
I’m reading Everyone Worth Knowing by the same lady that wrote The Devil Wears Prada- it is so cute! She keeps me so interested! I’m going to have to check out some of these books!

LOVE books and two of my most remembered recent reads that I RECOMMEND to EVERYONE are by George Schaffner. These books were given to me by my niece who picked them up at college.
Don’t be fooled into thinking these are religious based reads…They are about hope, human spirit, and what and how everyone and everything connects in some way…
    LOVED these two reads…

mmmm-books!! I LOVE to see other people’s book shelves! Have you read History of Love? can’t remember the author but it was great! Book Thief was amazing but it is in the young adult section so it doesn’t egt the recognition it deserves. Ahab’s Wife is a keeper-I could go on and on.

wicked by gregory maguire – my december bookclub book and i sat in a chair for 5 straight hours on new years day to finish it – really great back story to the wizard of oz (which i didn’t like much at all!)…the first 40 pages are rough going, but really worth it to stick with it – promise!

    Elise,
I’ve been over at your card blog for some time now. Love the daily cards. LOVE them. Thanks. Anyway, just wanted to add my 2 cents to this post as I was skimming this blog for the first time and KNEW I had something to say about this post….
Jennifer Wiener! She’s an awesome “chick lit” author. Some great ones are Good in Bed, Little Earthquakes, In Her Shoes (also a movie with Cameron Diaz, Toni Collette, and Shirley McLaine) and Goodnight Nobody. Read and loved each and every one of them. Let me know what you think if you end up reading one. In the meantime, I’ll keep enjoying your creations.
