I was affected by two headlines today. Oddly enough, both relate to sports.
First: Kirby Puckett Dies Day after Suffering Stroke. Kirby, to me, is baseball. He represents Minnesota. Going to baseball games. Being a little kid. I remember when Kirby won Game 6 for the Twins in the 1991 World Series. I remember when Dad was chosen as fan of the game and we got to move down to the good seats to be closer to Kirby and the field. I remember when Kirby was forced to retire because of glaucoma – and how the St. Paul paper dedicated an entire section to him. Sad day for baseball. Sad day for Minnesota.
Second: Alumnus Responds to LSU Fan Billboard. Apparently, a Louisiana State University fan thought it would be funny to raise $9000 and put this billboard up near the Coliseum. Hahaha. And USC, true to form, responds fabulously. An alum created foraworthycause.com to raise money for victims of Katrina. And actually spend money on something productive and meaningful. So USC. To just throw it back in their faces. To make the negative a positive. To stay on top. To dominate with class.
Rest in Peace, Kirby. Fight on, ‘SC.
