Can every day have a color focus? Loving this project.
Today's RAINBOW. Should be good.
an archived personal and craft blog from Elise Blaha Cripe.
Right now, my plan is to make a minibook focused just on this Palm Springs / Desert trip once I am back with all my supplies and have all my photos printed. It's going to be a monster, similar to our honeymoon album. But maybe styled different. Not sure. Jury is out.
Either way, I am also documenting this trip in my summer book on a "in the moment" format.
Before we left on Monday, I added some photos from the weekend. These grid pages are obviously a big favorite. They are such an easy way to incorporate a bunch of images and still look organized. That little tag just says what we did over the weekend in list form.
And then the "on the road" pages. As you can see, lots of shape clips. I forgot my stapler so they are working for now. When I get home I might staple some things in place. That last "page" is made of two polaroids back to back. They are held together with clips which are then hooked through the book rings. My journaling while traveling tends to be a verbal dump of everything we did each day. Nothing special.
I'm not sure if I'll add more photos to this when I get home or just keep it as is.
Questions? Holler in the comments. Still need a summer book? Get one here. Want to see more of this album? Go here. Are you working on your own summer book? Add photos to the flickr group!
The King's Speech / late to the party much? We finally watched this last week and I was enthralled. I thought it was stunningly beautiful. The direction, the acting, the story. I was so into it I forgot where I was. Hell, I forgot who I was. I loved it. In the worlds of Leslie Knope, "I cannot over-hype it enough."
Parks & Recreation / speaking of Leslie Knope and being late to the party. Not sure why it took me so long to jump on this train, but I'm on now and holding on for dear life. I haven't been this committed to watching a show on a loop since Arrested Development (which is obviously the greatest show ever). / image via gq.com
The Help / adored this book. And I'm excited that it's going to be a movie. I usually love watching good books become movies. I think I'll see this one as a matinee by myself once we get Paul shipped off. I'm also excited about seeing Midnight in Paris, Page One & of course, the Harry Potter finale. (Luckily Paul will still be in town for that one.) Another sidenote : I love Kindle books on the iPad. I know it's not for everyone, and I certainly didn't think it was for me, but turns out – totally is. I'm hooked for life.
Anything else I should be obsessed with? Books? Movies? Shows? I'm going to have seven months of free time that needs to get filled up…
Okay. So this is up there on the Not Too Exciting list. But I've got a long way to go to get to 26 projects by February so we're rolling with it.
I never use a camera strap. Ever. In general, I only use my big camera around the house so it's never in harms way. But, before we left for vacation, I decided that I should attach the strap to make carrying it around easier. And then I made the executive decision that the strap needed to get fancy.
Enter : The Only Fabric I Ever Seem To Use. Green and white striped decor weight fabric. It can also be seen inside the trunk, on the couch pillows and as box covers at my craft shows. Good times.
Like it always does, it seemed perfect for this project. I cut a piece that was about 4×22 inches and machine stitched it right on top of the original Canon strap with a heavy duty needle.
Again, nothing too exciting, but certainly an improvement. And it's already helping me use the camera more so check plus to that.
I am attempting to tackle 26 personal craft projects before I turn 27 on 02.22.12. You can follow my progress here on the blog, on pinterest or on flickr.
I read about Poppytalk's color week on Hula Seventy last weekend, decided to do it and then promptly forgot about it, until last night, when I checked blogs again. A quick peek through the day's photos revealed I captured a bunch of yellow without even trying. So count me in for color week.
Today's color is pink. I'm on the hunt.
Related : I'm going for 50 (quality) photos a day on this Palm Springs / Palm Desert trip. Yesterday, I collected 60.
Semi-related : check back this afternoon for a short & sweet camera related post.
As mentioned a million and three times (excited much?) I'm leaving town for the next two weeks. And the summer minibook is coming with me. I won't have access to a printer or sewing machine on this trip so there will not be any photos, typed text or sewn details added on the road. Instead, I'll be relying on scraps of paper that I pick up, handwritten journaling, stickers and polaroid photos. (Yes, I'm a freak that still has original Polaroid film. My last 10 pack is coming on this trip.)
Before I packed up my book, I added a few sewn embellishments to a few of the pages. I'm not sure if I'll even use them on the trip, but at least I have a little extra detail in case. Don't be afraid to "prep" your pages in advance, especially if you're someone who likes a lot of detail. (p.s – that stamped sun page will be in the bonus paper pack that's coming soon.)
I'm keeping my tools pretty simple. Hole puncher, scissors, adhesive, ink, date stamp and a few pens. For embellishments, I'm bringing washi tape, a couple shaped clips, tags, labels, letter stickers & Making Memories travel word fetti.
And like a crazy person, I'm bring three cameras. My big one, my point and shoot and my Polaroid. (Plus my iPhone, obviously). But hey – we're driving so no matter. Fingers crossed I stay on top of the documentation the next two weeks! I'll try and check in over the weekend to share progress.
P.S : Want to see how I documented another vacation while on the road? Check out one of my favorite minibooks of all time.
Paul's college friends were in town this past weekend and we packed it full including the Tourist Trifecta : zoo, Padres game & beach. Sadly, my camera only made it to the farmer's market so all my other photos are iPhone photos. The Little Italy farmer's market is just down the street from our place is arguably the best market in San Diego. It is definitely the best one I've ever been to, ever.
If you're in town on a Saturday morning, add it to your adventures for sure.
Happy Friday!
Couple things I wanted to mention before I checked out for vacation …
+ all shop orders placed Sunday, June 26 – Friday, July 8 will ship Saturday, July 10. If you have been on the fence about a picking up a summer minibook, now is the time to grab one to have it by the 4th. I'll be making one last stop at the post office on Monday.
+ you might have noticed that the Blog 2.0 workshop starts the same day we are to report to Ventura for Paul's pre-deployment training. Don't worry! The best thing about this re-run is that all the lessons are in the can which means all my work time will go to answering questions and helping you out. "Downtime" will be my middle name while I'm hanging out in a hotel room for a week and a half so the workshop will still be a priority. If you're interested, please check out the information and sign up!
+ expect an email delay the next few days. I am going to do my best to stay out of gmail. I'll be tweeting up a storm though, that's for sure.
+ a few blog posts are already scheduled for next week and I hope to pop in from Palm Springs, so check back.
Have a wonderful weekend.
