Our go to these past few month (minus whole30) has been pizza on the grill. It's much too hot to do something crazy like "heat the oven" and this process is actually much faster and more delicious anyway.

We use our usual pizza dough recipe (it's heavily Ellerie directed at this point but somehow still always turns out) and give it a few hours to rise.

Then I roll it out on the pizza peel like normal (being sure to use some cornmeal to prevent sticking) and Paul throws it directly onto the grill (heated to about 400*F) for five minutes.

When it comes off the grill, it looks like the photo above, hard and sort of "bubbly" on top.

Our easy summer sauce (again, takes no heat) is just olive oil and this pizza we topped with mozzarella, leftover grilled pork, pear, onion, garlic, feta and salt & pepper.

After being built it goes back on the grill (just directly onto it – no pan or anything) at 400*F for another 10-12 minutes.

The difference of a grilled pizza vs. an oven pizza (aside from the fact that it doesn't heat my house) is so noticeable. Crispy crust and sort of smokey taste. Worth cooking up before summer officially ends, for sure.

I’ve been wanting to try this for so long! I’m going to see this as a sign and make some this weekend. 🙂

My husband and I have a grill on our wish list (we’re moving to a new place this week!). And we’d love love love to make grilled pizzas. He often makes pizza dough from scratch, and while they’re delicious in the oven, it’d be great to enjoy pizza in the summer without heating up the house.

Grilled pizza is my fave! I’m too lazy to make dough, though, and have been a fan of Pampered Chef’s pizza dough mix for over a decade! It is my go-to whenever a friend has a party and I can’t think of anything else I need to buy. 😉 Sometimes when I’m really lazy, we just throw a frozen pizza on the grill! Definitely not as good as fresh, but much better than baked in the oven!

When you blogged about this awhile back I got my husband on board with the idea and it is now one of our favorite things to do. I like the idea of a no-sauce pizza. Might have to try that soon.

    That dough looks SO GOOD.
We really need to invest in a grill next summer. I’m convinced it’d make life 1,000% better/easier.

We LOVE grilled pizza! We do “personal pan” pizzas for each family member…the kids like the treat of picking out their own toppings and I like loading mine with veggies and mushrooms and things everyone else dislikes!

what kind of a grill did you used? we do not have an oven and i would like to be able to bake some pizzas but I am afraid a charcoal regular open top grill is not meant for this..

We do this too but we flip it so the already grilled part is where the toppings go and then both sides get grilled 🙂
