Yep. This month wins.

0004_4

My baby became a little girl this month…on film.

0003_3 0018_18

She's a two-year-old!

0024_24

With more spunk and personality than Paul and I combined.

0008_8

And she's somehow also the sweetest…

0011_11 0013_13

…and most daring kiddo I have ever met.

I've made no secret that the newborn phase and first year baby phase were not a personal best for me. I struggled on every level for way longer than what felt "normal."

0034_34

It's hard for me to remember that phase now. Just like everyone said they would, those days have faded into the background. I know though that grace and help and love kept us going. And now, we're fueled by those three things plus our crazy bond. She's my girl. I'm her mama. It's like magic. Actually screw that. It's like motherhood.

Love you, Ellerie Eve.

These photos are part of my "film project" where I take a roll of film of Ellerie each month. You can see all of these posts here. I shoot with an old film camera similar to this and this lens. I have been using Kodak Portra 400 film. I have my photos printed at Nelson's Photo Supply. These images are un-retouched digital scans of the film.

She is so sweet, Elise. It’s so fun to watch her grow. Thanks for being honest about the challenges in the first year of parenthood. My daughter will be one on Monday, and while she is the best ever, this year has been tough. I try to enjoy the moments as they pass, but I’m also super excited to see who she becomes.

Love these post! She is a doll!!! I’m right there with you on the newborn and baby phase, toddlers are RAD! My daughter will be 5 in October and though she is sassy she is the coolest kid I know! Enjoy!

these are great, elise! my son is just about a month younger than ellerie (and our new babe will be about a month younger than yours, ha!) and i totally know what you mean. the early months were actually quite easy for us and the toddler times can now be more of a challenge than i anticipated, but i still know what you mean about that bond. it is insane.
and also- thank you for inspiring me to pick up my film camera more. i’ve only shot a few rolls since he was born, but i’ve now embarked on a one roll a month goal just like yours. so thanks for that!

what a little doll! my cousin used to have a strawberry birthmark just like Ellerie’s on her cheek, it’s faded to almost nothing now, but every time I see it I’m immediately taken back to when we were kids.

That pic of her and Paul is so great. And I love that you captured the both of you capturing life through photography in the last one. Couldn’t be more perfect.

The one of her half on/off of the changing pad — it so reminds me of my littlest who turns two this September. But that one of both she and you with cameras is so priceless.

I absolutely love these posts. I set a new years resolution that involved 4 rolls of film and I still haven’t finished the first one yet. I need to change that right away!

Gorgeous photos. It’s so crazy how two gets here (Alice’s 2nd bday was in May) and ALL-OF-A-SUDDEN you have a little girl. Legs are longer, baby chub starts to lessen, and the talking and all the words… It’s all so wonderful and overwhelming and sweet.

Still really enjoying this project Elise.
Love how it shows that memory keeping and documentation can take all sort of forms. The film is something special though, l’ve been amazing at how much ‘different’ they are compared to digital images. There’s just something about them, right?

Isn’t it strange how they stop being babies almost overnight. It’s something you would think you’d see coming but nope! I had a moment when I went away without my son for a couple of days. I remember looking at his hands, when I got back, and wondering when they had turned into little boy hands, lean and capable and not at all like the little chubby and slightly clumsy fingers I swore he’d had when I left him.

I’m having trouble scanning photos and not having them become blown out, can I ask what brand scanner you use and any tips you might have?
    Thanks,
