scrap yarn knit blanket

Last year, while I was knitting my 29 blankets, I knitted one extra (I think it was number 19). I didn't have enough of two yarns colors at the house and I was wanting to knit so I just started adding scrap yarn together. Of course, then I ran out of scrap yarn and had to go buy more to actually finish this blanket.

Originally, I thought I'd sell it as one of the 29 but then realized that would be so random. 28 striped blankets and then this one! This random one! #odd.

So I kept it aside and powered through the remaining blankets. And then sold them in November.

This one is still special to me though. I love the look. I love the warm color palette. I love the crazy changing yarns.

Like all the blankets, this was knit with simple back-and-forth garter stitch on size 15 needles. (I did 60 stitches per row if you want to make your own.)

I’ve been reading for a few years now. Your hairpin leg coffee table post was the first I read, and then I started delving into the archives and then subscribing with my feedreader. It inspired us to make that table AND a 6’x3’ dining table. At the time I was living in Scotland and my husband was finishing his PhD and we knew we’d move back to California for our forever home. We did, and the tables were our first project for our new home. We moved it from our rental into the home we bought this year. Thanks for the inspiration! We love our table and I love your blog.

Love this blanket! I’ve been reading since 2010 when I purchased my first thing from you: your mini book that for me was 20 things to do that year. Today you are still my #1 read and my favorite posts are always the ‘weekend links’. I’ve found so many interesting posts from those but recently your ‘currently’ and the ‘E & e’ posts are the must reads. Thanks for the fun giveaway!

I just found your blog the other day via Pinterest. I read your full story of how you started your business and was hooked. I subscribed immediately and am making my way through your archives! I too just finished a blanket and gave it to a friend for her baby. She said it’s the only blanket that she has that’s handmade. I’m now on a mission to start knitting blankets for other newborns. You are an inspiration and I wish you every success in 2015!

Hi Elise! I’m a newer reader (about a few months) but I’m so glad that I’m here now! My favorite post from when Ive started to read your blog is when you wrote about the things you have learned from knitting. I have been progressing in my knitting as well, and it was such an inspiration to keep going. I would be so lucky and honored to win this blanket!!

I love reading your blog! I think one of my favorite posts have been your E and e serious! It is such a cute way to document and also so memorable for both of you!
The blankets have been one of the coolest projects you’ve done for your Make29, and so ambitious. You’ve inspired me to take my own knitting farther this year. I am so happy your blankets sold out, bummed I couldn’t get one, it was out of my budget, but maybe I’ll try and tackle one this year!
Your blog is so great, I’ve been an avid reader since before your move to San diego! Also, I am in love with your house projects!
    Keep up the Awesome Elise!

I don’t know how long I’ve been reading; since before your wedding I’m sure. I remember always thinking how cool it would have been to bump into you at the Paper Source; but by that time, my office had just relocated to the Reston area (from Georgetown).
I think my favorite post(s) from last year were the E&e series. It was so much fun to read those each month (and to see how mama was shaping a “mini me”).
    Thanks for writing every day!

(I think I found you from A Beautiful Mess.) I’ve always loved your home decor posts, so I would have to say your patio or rugs post from this year 🙂 However, I still love your DIY media cabinet post from 2013!

Hi Elise. I started reading your blog about six months ago. I just quit teaching high school English after five years to pursue writing. Your blog has such good advice for creative and I also like reading about how you just get things done. It’s inspiring. But you also seem down to earth and humble, which is refreshing. I liked your 2014 post about the jewelry you wear. Your part about how necklaces just look awkward on your neck and you end up taking them off made me think – yes! That’s what I’ve always been thinking about myself. It felt liberating to say that I am just not a necklace person. Take care, and I hope you have a great year personally and also with your blog and business. -Susie

What a great idea to make a scrap blanket; it looks so warm and cozy! My favorite posts from 2014 have to be the stories about the business side of your Make29 venture. Those make your blog much more personal and real. I also like reading about your Sacramento adventures since that’s where I’ve lived the majority of my life! I’ve been following your blog for probably about two years now 🙂
