scrap yarn knit blanket

Last year, while I was knitting my 29 blankets, I knitted one extra (I think it was number 19). I didn't have enough of two yarns colors at the house and I was wanting to knit so I just started adding scrap yarn together. Of course, then I ran out of scrap yarn and had to go buy more to actually finish this blanket.

Originally, I thought I'd sell it as one of the 29 but then realized that would be so random. 28 striped blankets and then this one! This random one! #odd.

So I kept it aside and powered through the remaining blankets. And then sold them in November.

This one is still special to me though. I love the look. I love the warm color palette. I love the crazy changing yarns.

Like all the blankets, this was knit with simple back-and-forth garter stitch on size 15 needles. (I did 60 stitches per row if you want to make your own.)

I have been reading your blog for several years now and share it often with friends. My favorite posts are your food project posts (loaves of bread, pizza). The pizza posts are my favorite and because of your family we now make our own pizza several times a month and experiment with sauces and toppings more often.

First thanks for the chance to win your blanket, its so pretty. One of the things on my goal list for this year is to “Knit something” I have been reading you since right before Paul’s first deployment. I think my favorite post was a series. It was Your Business Story series. I found it interesting because I want to do what you do but just don’t know quite how to go about do it. Reading what you have done has helped out a lot, thank you.

I don’t know why I read your blog. You are so different from me is so many ways. And yet your blog is one I have marked as a must read. You touch me. Maybe its your enthusiasm or your dedication to progress. Maybe its your clean aesthetic or commitment to goals setting. I don’t know what it is, but I keep coming back for more. Maybe you encourage me to look at things differently and that is always a good thing.

I could totally relate. I am so lucky I get to work from home, and look after my kids, but yeah, some days….anyway, I love your blog, it’s very inspiring. And I love your projects. Love the blanket…

My favorite posts used to be about the wedding planning. Now I love to hear about your garden, those precious letters to little E, and just generally love checking in on my super creative and hard working blog friend Elise 🙂

I started reading your blog the week before your wedding. I had just stumbled upon it and was loved reading about how you were going to DIY so much… and then my dad died unexpectedly on April 25. I came home from college to plan a funeral and when I was alone I read your blog archives to keep from thinking about everything going on in my life. It felt like you were a new friend helping me get through. I’ve been a reader ever since! My favorite posts from 2014 are your letters to Ellerie.

Love your craftiness both in memory-keeping and in home decor. I’d be honored if you picked me for the blanket! Happy New Year! Wishing you all the best! Thank you!

Hi Elise! I’ve been reading your blog for five years now since my roommate introduced me to you and we made minibooks for days that year! My favorite post(s) of 2014 are the E & e series… so cute yet simple and a fabulous way to document and celebrate life. Thanks for the ways you invite us into your world!

I discovered your blog when an english scrapbooking magazine published a feature on the minibook you made about your european travels with your GF, right after graduating from college. How many years is that? 7, 8? God I’m not getting any younger 🙂 And my favorite articles are always the more personal ones, when you talk about facing challenges and keeping a positive attitude. Even though I’m much older than you, you’ve been an inspiration for these last… 7,8? years 🙂

I’ve been reading I think since early 2011? I know I came in while I was pregnant with my second son–I started following lots of blogs at about that time, but you’ve probably been my favorite for most of that time! I list think you have really great taste and a good attitude!
For my favorite post? This is random, but I really loved this one time you shared a picture of yourself with this weird knitting sling you’d concocted, so you could knit and pace around the house for Fitbit steps at the same time? It might have been on Instagram, but I thought it was just a great sort of goofy fun thing… It reminded me of something I would do!

My favorite post from this past year was “the new favorites photo” from April 3. It popped right back into my mind when you asked about posts from this past year….and I found it just when I started to think I was making it up. It’s a gem of a post because it is so clearly your voice and on a personal level. I’ve been reading since the fall of 2007. I’ve watched the blog go from random posts to super clean and informational posts and it was fun to get a glimpse of the random again.

I’ve been reading your blog since I was 22 (just turned 27) and working for a super professional, global company thinking every day (like you were) “this is where I thought I wanted to be, but get me out” 🙂 I’ve followed you through Paul’s deployments, through planning your wedding, and even little E’s entrance into this world! I talk about you and your blog to my long term boyfriend (he’s currently in the police academy here in Las Vegas) and even though he’s not as spunky as I am about crafts and your creative genius, he knows you from my “Elise, the stamp girl!” or “you know, the blog I follow with the mini books!” . So here I am, 27, starting MY OWN blog this year, working in a much more creative position away from the corporate world, and whether I win the blanket or not, THANK YOU for being an inspiration :]

Hello! I’ve been following your blog since the end of 2011/beginning of 2012. A friend of mine told me about your blog. I was serving in the Peace Corps in Botswana, Africa at the time, and my internet connection wasn’t always reliable. I subscribed to your blog so I could log into my email account and read them whenever I had internet access. My favorite thing about reading your blog (then & now) is that you keep things so simple. You say things from your heart, you document progress and imperfections, and continue to celebrate each day – regardless of whether it matched up with your goals. You make things seem doable! During my time abroad, I would get frustrated with a lack of progress, feeling stuck, etc. But your blog always lifted my spirits! I emailed you once about using Project Life to document my time as a Peace Corps volunteer – and it challenged me to find beauty in the darkest days. Your sweet letters to Ellerie taught me to cherish and love the days full of helping raise my young brothers and sisters in my host family. Your garden posts showed me that with persistence – we could both make things grow (you in San Diego – and me in the desert in Botswana!). Your currently posts always made me smile and helped me reflect on the things I was doing each day in my service. And now that I’m back in the States – I continue to find inspiration in your blog. Your words about your time at WDS helped me tackle my own fear of public speaking at a state conference upon my return from the Peace Corps. I am amazed at all I continue to learn from you and your life lessons you are blogging about. Thanks for the opportunity to share your impact on my life! 🙂
