Friendshipbraceletwallhanging

Last week I decided to make a friendship bracelet out of yarn – totally inspired by this. I figured yarn would be easier than fabric and I didn't get complicated with the pattern, just stuck with a traditional knotted bracelet style.

This was my first attempt but then I decided to switch to white and candy colors. I used two different kinds of white and then one rainbow colored yarn (that was quadrupled to make it thick).

I love how it turned out but I would totally want to make it wider. I also couldn't get it to stop curling up on the bottom end, not sure if that was just from pulling too tightly?

This finished "weaving" is 15×4" (which is not counting the knot up top or the tails) and used 12 different lengths of yarn (though some were tripled and quadrupled). I started with pieces of yarn that were nearly two yards (72 inches) long.

Fun to experiment, but now I want to see how I can make it bigger and more interesting…

I loved, loved, loved the podcast today! I loved hearing Marta’s and your thoughts on priorities in life, and what you get from blogging about the personal stuff, and why you read blogs still. It gave me a lot of inspiration for my own blog and to keep up my own passion for blogging! Also, to remember that if I’m dragging my heels to do a thing/feature, to change something about it, because it’s not firing me up. And I only want to do the stuff that fires me up.

Friendship bracelets in this striped pattern will naturally curl because of the nature of the half-hitch knots. You could try blocking it (soak in lukewarm water, lay flat on towels and stretch into position, let try) and that would probably eliminate this amount of curl, especially if the yarns are natural fibers. If you’re doing a wider or tighter hanging at some point and want to prevent curling you could try doing two knots instead of one for each string and that should help! 🙂

Fun experiment. When I was a camp counselor, I loved teaching my 5th grade girls to make friendship bracelets.

This is SO GREAT! I have to try this as well. It makes such a great statement. (oh, another idea just pops into my head while I’m writing this: I will make one for my friend. Friendship bracelets are the sign of friends and a giant friendship bracelet is the sign of best friends 🙂 )

Looks great!! I love friendship bracelets. For the curling at the end if the piece, maybe try “blocking” it? That might get rid of the curl.
